MASSIVE PERFECT SURFACE COPPER + LADDER (PSC +)
Perfect-Surface-Copper + has a surprisingly smooth and pure surface. FEP-AIR-TUBE-INSULATION (FEP is a fluoropolymer)
Any massive material adjacent to a conductor becomes part of an incomplete electrical network. Wire insulation and circuit board material absorb energy (losses). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. In the Yosemite, Air Tube insulation is used for all conductors because air absorbs almost no energy and FEP is the best extrudable solid insulation and absorbs less energy than other materials. The FEP air tubes used in the Yosemite consist of almost nothing other than air around the massive PSC + conductors.
DIELECTRIC BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1)
Any insulation will slow down the signal on the conductor inside. If there is no voltage across the isolation, it will slow down individual parts of the signal to varying degrees - a major problem with very time-critical broadband audio. AudioQuest DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This reduces both the energy stored in the insulation and the various non-linear time delays to a minimum. The sound is created against a surprisingly black background with an unexpected richness of detail and expanded dynamics. The DBS batteries last for several years. A button with an LED display enables the occasional test of the battery charge level.
CARBON-BASED 3-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS) Achieving 100 percent shielding is easy. The AQ noise dissipation system is required to prevent 'captured' HF interference from influencing the device's ground reference. Metal and carbon-containing plastics prevent most of the RF interference from reaching the device's ground plane.
DOUBLE-BALANCED ASYMMETRICAL GEOMETRY
Specially developed for single-ended applications, Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry offers less impedance on the ground for a fuller, more dynamic sound result. While many single-ended cables use a single path for both ground and shielding, double-balanced designs separate the two for a cleaner, quieter performance.
COLD WELDED DIRECT SILVER PLATED PURE 'RED COPPER' RCA CONNECTORS
This connector structure allows the connection without solder - because this is a common source of interference. Because the end sleeves are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be selected for low distortion rather than machinability. Red-Copper offers a cleaner, clearer sound than nickel-plated or OFHC metals, which are often found in competitive plugs. The direct silver plating is another important step towards greater clarity without compromising the signal.
