PRECISION TURNTABLES & TONEARMS

Precision is the magic word at SME. In Steyning in southern England, Alastair Robertson-Aikman founded his company for precision models and accessories for model making in 1946. This was followed by the expansion of the business fields to the aviation industry, among others for Rolls Royce. In 1959, Robertson-Aikman designed a tonearm for his personal hi-fi system. 

With the encouragement of audio enthusiast friends, he mass-produced the first SME 3009 S1 tonearm. The success led to a new factory to meet the demand of the new tonearm. Since then, SME tonearms have brought tears of joy to the eyes of vinyl fans around the globe. In 1991, the first turntable from SME appeared and marked the new reference. Today, the turntable range comprises six model series plus the integrated Synergy, a high-end turntable with integrated phono stage at the very highest level.
