Audioquest NRG-10

No matter how perfect the power source is, distortion is added in every power cord, especially stranded cords. Even the most sophisticated filters and power supplies cannot prevent this cable-induced distortion.

MASSIVE PERFECT SURFACE COPPER + LADDER (PSC +)

Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface-Copper + conductors are used in the NRG-10. All conductors are massive, which prevents the strands from influencing each other - and thus a main cause of distortion. Because a conductor acts like a rail guide for both electrical fields inside the conductor and also for the magnetic fields outside the conductor, the surface quality is crucial. The amazingly smooth and pure Perfect Surface material eliminates roughness and improves clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers. The superior purity of PSC + also minimizes grain boundary distortion that occurs in any metallic conductor.

MULTI-LAYER CARBON-BASED NOISE DISSIPATION and CROSSTALK DISSIPATION SYSTEM (INSULATION)

The negative conductors in the NRG-10 are insulated with partially conductive carbon-containing polyethylene. This remarkable material attenuates high frequency interference so that it is not fed back into the amplifier. The tonal advantage of this is the same reduction in fluctuations and better spatiality as the reduction in HF waste in an audio circuit. In the NRG-10, polyethylene foam insulation is used on the positive conductors because air absorbs almost no energy and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to the air in the PE foam, there are far fewer blurring effects than with other materials.

HF CAPS

Made from ferrite, the RF noise stopper suppresses RF interference, then dissipates it (as heat), eliminating utility power pollution for clear, smooth playback.

COUNTER SPIRAL GEOMETRY

The positive conductors in the NRG-10 power cord are grouped inside as a circular spiral that rotates in one direction. The negative conductors are arranged around this inner group in a counter-rotating spiral. Even when positive and negative conductors cross rather than parallel to each other, the ratio of the positive and negative groups to one another is fixed without changing in order to stay true to one of AudioQuest's key design principles: consistency. The result is surprising clarity - like focusing on a camera that you never knew was out of focus.

DIELECTRIC BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1)

Any insulation will slow down the signal on the conductor inside. If there is no voltage across the isolation, it will slow down individual parts of the signal to varying degrees - a major problem with very time-critical broadband audio. AudioQuest DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This reduces both the energy stored in the insulation and the various non-linear time delays to a minimum. The sound is created against a surprisingly black background with an unexpected richness of detail and expanded dynamics. The DBS batteries last for several years. A button with an LED display enables the occasional test of the battery charge level.

COLD WELDING SYSTEM

This new connector design enables a perfectly heat-free connection between cable and connector. The connection between the connector and the conductors is made using AQ's cold welding system. This creates a high quality connection that fully maintains the structural integrity of the ladder. The cold welding system consists of a combination of high pressure at the contact point and the use of copper or silver impregnated paste.
