HEGEL

In 1988, Hegel's journey began when Bent Holter, a student at Trondheim University of Technology (NTNU), wrote his thesis on the design of transistors in amplifiers. His goal was to eliminate distortion that occurred in traditional hi-fi systems.

Usually, fighting distortion worsens other parameters, such as the damping factor. Holter therefore developed a new project that became the basis of today's SoundEngine technology. The company name comes from Holter's rock-metal band "The Hegel Band", for which he himself built amplifiers. The further development of the technology was made possible by financial support from Telenor.

In the early 1990s, Hegel developed the patented SoundEngine solution, followed by a DAC in 1994 and the first CD player in 1996. Despite the financial crisis, Hegel hired new engineers and developed new D/A converters.

Today, Hegel is an established hi-fi brand that produces integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers and power amplifiers as well as CD players and modern D/A converters. The portfolio now includes six independent technical solutions. Hegel has dealers in 63 countries and its products are sold worldwide, supported by numerous awards and positive press reviews.
