Audioquest PEARL HDMI
High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI for short) describes a common standard for the transmission of digital audio, digital video and control commands. It was defined by the 7 largest electronics manufacturers and supports more than 300 of the major brands.
With HDMI you only need one cable for audio, video and control. The latter is simplified by a 2-way communication. In the field of video components, HDMI ensures a 1920 x 1080 image resolution, but is also able to display higher resolutions. In the audio component, HDMI generates high-resolution multi-channel sound.
An HDMI cable consists of 19 individual conductors, with many of these 19 individual conductors performing different tasks at the same time. In general, the cables differ in their data transfer capacity (in Gbps), the extent of which is determined by the metals used, the geometric structure of the conductors to one another and the cable length.
HDMI 1.4 is the latest version (max. 2160p / 100Hz). It differs from its predecessor, the HDMI 1.3 version, in the options available: extended color space, 3D, 4K, audio return channel and an Ethernet network via HDMI. In addition, new video options increase the amount of data that is sent from the source device to the screen. The sum of the simultaneously possible options is limited by the maximum available data rate of the respective HDMI standard. The HDMI 1.4 version allows a maximum data transfer of 10.2 Gbps (10.2 billion bits per second).
The new 3D technology of the HDMI 1.4 version enables the simultaneous display of 2 slightly shifted images as a simulation of human stereo vision. The audio return channel also makes it possible to send video from the home theater amplifier to the TV and audio from the TV back to the amplifier. The Ethernet function integrated in all Audioquest HDMI cables enables an Internet connection for all devices connected to HDMI, whereby only one requires a LAN connection.
The current version HDMI 1.4 is compatible with all previous versions, although the new features of the version are not available for older devices. Replacing the cable alone does not mean an expansion of the available functions!
HDMI cables are defined by two different speeds, high speed and standard speed. High Speed delivers 340MHz at a maximum data rate of 10.2Gpbs and is suitable for 1080p and more. High quality cables meet this classification up to a length of 8 meters. From this length the standard speed usually occurs . This delivers 75 MHz at a maximum data rate of 2.25Gpbs and is suitable for 1080i / 720p.
