267477 Audioquest Black Lab

The Audioquest Black Lab is the entry-level cable in the Audioquest subwoofer cable series. As usual with Audioquest, the Black Lab also delivers unique sound properties. It was made of high quality copper and is optimally protected from background noise by Auioquest's unique isolation process.

Contrary to what their name suggests, Labradors originally came from Newfoundland, where they were first known as 'Saint John's dogs' around 1700. Known today as the Labrador, the dog arose when this Newfoundland-born breed was crossed with smaller water dogs. Labradors (black or any other color) are known for their sense of duty, sophisticated nose and fine hearing, and their ability to fetch endlessly (after all, a retriever is a retriever). The entirety of these traits makes Labradors as excellent companion dogs for disabled people as they are wonderful pets.

LONG CRYSTALLINE COPPER (LGC) SOLID CONDUCTORS:

Solid conductors prevent distortion caused by mutual interference between the strands. The solid long-crystalline copper (LGC) in the Black Lab enables a more balanced, clearer sound than cables with the usual oxygen-free, highly conductive copper (OFHC - Oxygen-Free-High-Conductivity). OFHC is a general metal industry specification that considers 'losses' without considering any distortion. LGC has fewer oxides in the conductive material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries, and offers significantly better performance.

POLYETHYLENE FOAM INSULATION:

Any massive material adjacent to a conductor becomes part of an incomplete electrical network. Wire insulation and circuit board material absorb energy (losses). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. In the Black Lab, air-filled polyethylene foam insulation is used for both conductors because air absorbs almost no energy and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to the air in the polyethylene foam, it causes significantly fewer blurring effects than other materials.

METAL LAYER NOISE DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS):

Achieving 100 percent shielding is easy. The AudioQuest noise dissipation system is required to prevent 'captured' RF interference from affecting the device's ground reference. It prevents most of the RF interference from reaching the device's ground plane.

SYMMETRICAL COAX GEOMETRY:

Identical + and - conductors prevent the shield being used as an inferior audio conductor.

COLD WELDED GOLD PLATED RCA CONNECTORS:

This connector design allows connections without solder - because this is a common source of interference. Because the end sleeves are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be selected for low distortion rather than machinability.

Highlights

  • Metal: LGC copper

  • Geometry: coax, symmetrical

  • Dielectric: polyethylene

  • NDS (Noise-Dissipation System): Metal-Layer NDS

  • Sheathing: white / black, PVC

  • Connectors: Cold Formed, Gold Plated
