Burmester 249 preamplifier with external power supply and DAC streaming

The new Reference Line

With the new Reference Line,Burmester opens another chapter in the history of high-end audio – one that shows what the future sounds like when it is based on decades of experience, technical mastery and true craftsmanship.

The 249 preamplifier is far more than just a device: It is the result of over 40 years of audiophile passion and engineering precision. It blends tradition and innovation into a sonic experience that sets standards – at a level that truly deserves the Reference name.

X-AMP 3: The future of analog amplification

The Burmester 249 represents a new dimension in audiophile control. Whether analog or digital, vinyl or high-resolution streaming: The 249 brings every source to life in its purest form – with breathtaking depth, clarity, and spatial presence.

At the heart of the preamplifier is the newly developed, three-stage, fully analog X-AMP 3 amplifier technology . Thanks to sophisticated compensation techniques, it delivers outstanding linearity, extreme signal fidelity, and maximum stability—regardless of external influences.

Technological excellence – in the service of sound

  • Fully balanced signal path , external power supply and dual regulated voltages minimize interference for virtually silent operation.
  • State-of-the-art SMD technology and compact circuits shorten the signal paths – the result: precise sound reproduction with the lowest possible susceptibility to interference.
  • Individually selected components with extremely tight tolerances guarantee uncompromising quality – especially for the transistors.

Design meets functionality

The 249 is the first Reference Line device to feature the new, iconic design: A full-surface mirror on the front of the base unit and power supply lends the combination a timeless elegance. Two adaptive, haptic rotary encoders enable intuitive operation – supported by the new Reference Line 250 remote control with tactile and visual feedback.

Modular. Adaptable. Future-proof.

  • The 249 offers maximum flexibility through modular expandability:
  • Optional high-end DAC for digital sources – with one of the most powerful converter chips in the world
  • Expandable phono and line modules for individual setups
  • Streamer option for modern music streaming at reference level

Connectivity without compromise

Whether it's a turntable, CD player, or streaming service, the 249 combines analog passion with digital precision. It's the perfect centerpiece of any audiophile system—ready for every source, every requirement, every demand.
