The SL-G700 is a digital multi-format player that covers the media most commonly used today - from traditional CD / SACD to the latest Hi-Res formats and streaming services. All these sources are reproduced in the highest possible sound standards. With these properties, it is the ideal partner for the SU-G700 amplifier.

High-quality design, typically Grand Class
Ultra-fast, low-noise hybrid switching power supply
The quality of the power supply is extremely important for a faithful sound reproduction. Power supply noise and poor power supply stability have a direct impact on the sound quality, especially with the analog outputs. The SL-G700 is therefore equipped with its own power supply section for the analog audio outputs. The switched-mode power supply without negative feedback suppresses fluctuations in the switching frequency, as they usually occur with simpler power supply layouts. In connection with the original stabilized power supply circuit, this power supply offers a stable power supply even with low noise. The discrete circuit structure is free of simple, generally used ICs and is instead built with selected components that have been selected after intensive listening comparisons. This results in an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and a faithful sound image, the hallmark of Technics products.

High-end D / A converter and converter circuit in double mono construction
The D / A converter circuit is the most important component in the analog output, as it regenerates the analog waveform from the digital source signal - e.g. a CD. In the D / A converter section of the SL-G700, two Asahi Kasei Microdevices AK4497 tip converters work in a channel-separated configuration. These are characterized by an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and the lowest possible distortion values. The power supply for the D / A converter is divided into five sections according to the application. The power supply for the clock generator uses an original, battery-operated circuit in order to achieve the highest clock precision during the D / A conversion. The double mono construction and the asymmetrical layout eliminate mutual influences between the channels. The resulting imaging precision and spatiality opens up new dimensions. In addition, both PCM and DSD signals can be passed on directly to the D / A converter in their original signal state, completely unadulterated.

Discrete amplifier modules
Just as important for the analog output as the D / A converter is the filter circuit, which is connected after the D / A converter. The filter circuit of the SL-G700 does not use a simple operational amplifier IC, but rather specially developed amplifier trains with a discrete structure. Low-noise transistors and thin-film resistors keep the noise as low as possible. Careful fine-tuning led, among other things, to a moderate increase in the operating current, which leads to an improved signal-to-noise ratio and lower distortion. As a result, the SL-G700 impresses with a very linear, true-to-original reproduction, without suppressing even the tiniest details of the original recording.

Battery operated clock generator
When processing digital audio signals, the quality of the signal processing clock has a major influence on the sound quality. The power supplies for sensitive components such as the clock block of the D / A converter and the audio signal processing are excellently shielded against noise or fluctuations in the main power supply. Over many years, Technics has gained in-depth knowledge of how to isolate the power supply unit from battery power. This technology makes digital audio interfaces such as D / A converter circuits with extremely low noise possible. In addition, the system clock for audio signal processing is supplied by a clock generator with the lowest possible jitter. A low-noise power supply with a high-precision work cycle enables reproduction of the highest transparency.

Architecture to contain digital noise
So-called power conditioners are used for the USB inputs. These contain, among other things, non-magnetic carbon film resistors. These serve to provide effective protection against magnetic radiation. In addition, high-quality ruby mica capacitors are used, which are characterized by low dielectric losses, high dielectric strength and excellent temperature stability.
Noise-reducing components also contribute to the detailed sound. These include film capacitors with low internal resistance in the LAN connection and so-called pulse transformers for the digital outputs.

Intelligent assembly activation
The intelligent assembly activation switches off various modules - e.g. for the display, analog and digital interfaces - in order to minimize noise during music operation.

High quality headphone output
Usually the analog output signals (balanced / unbalanced) and the headphone signal are fed from the same D / A converter. The SL-G700, however, is equipped with its own D / A converter for the headphone output, which works independently of the audio output. This assembly contains the original, highly integrated signal processing circuit, the so-called JENO engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimization). The complete separation of the analog outputs from the headphone output effectively prevents mutual interference. Each of these assemblies was fine-tuned in extensive listening sessions so that the sound quality achieved meets the highest demands.
In addition, the JENO engine for the headphone output is only activated on the SL-G700 if headphones are actually connected. This keeps the analog outputs free from interference when headphones are not connected.
The Class AA circuit of the headphone amplifier uses separate circuits for voltage and current amplification. The high-quality operational amplifier circuit takes over the voltage amplification, a separate circuit with its own OP-amp and generous power supply takes over the current amplification. This enables high-precision conversion of the high-resolution PWM signals from the JENO Engine into an analog signal. This allows headphones to be operated optimally in a wide impedance range with low distortion and in a wide frequency range.

Equipped for a wide variety of current digital audio media
MQA playback
The built-in MQA decoder fully decodes and plays MQA files and MQA CDs.

SACD / CD mode
In the dedicated SACD / CD playback mode, all circuits that are not required for SACD / CD playback are switched off in order to increase the playback quality of all disc media.

Native DSD playback
This takes over the D / A conversion process of the DSD signal in the SACD recording format without prior conversion into a PCM signal. The resulting signal purity opens up the full potential of the DSD format.

High-res remaster
Using digital signal conversion of bandwidth and bit depth, signals with a resolution of 44.1 kHz / 16 bit (CD) or MP3 signals can be converted into high-resolution signals of up to 192 kHz / 32 bit. Familiar recordings can thus be discovered in a new quality.

Rich selection of music sources, wide variety of connections
The SL-G700 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Apple AirPlay with its extensive wireless connectivity. It is also compatible with streaming services such as Spotify, TIDAL and Internet radio and supports the Google Chromecast and Google Assistant functions. *

* A Google Voice enabled speaker must be on the same network.

High quality Technics design
Grouping in four sections
Many assemblies are typically used in a digital audio device. This also includes a switched-mode power supply in which high energies are processed, digital interfaces which process high-frequency signals, and analog assemblies.
The basic construction of the SL-G700 consists of four sections, which are decoupled from each other depending on the signal level.
By eliminating the interference between these blocks, the signal quality is kept clean. The rigidity of the chassis itself suppresses component vibrations to a great extent, which also promotes excellent signal purity.

Ultra-solid drive mechanism
When playing a disc, the precision of reading out the data is of crucial importance. The CD / SACD drive in the SL-G700 consists of a triple chassis structure. This enables extremely reliable reading of the data and at the same time prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the periphery of the drive. In addition, the drive of the SL-G700 also has a sturdy disc tray made of aluminum, which is characterized by a high level of vibration damping and ensures perfect playback.
