This preamplifier offers a significant leap in performance over previous versions, leveraging everything we learned during the development of the fantastic XR Series while retaining the familiar design of the Classic Series. The circuit design has been completely redesigned, and most of the internal components have been enhanced by the Cyrus R&D team, resulting in sonic improvements that will help ensure the Classic Series continues to enjoy a loyal following for years to come.
Analog preamplifier
The analog preamplifier features relay input control for the five analog inputs and a precision, zero-tracking volume control. The circuit design is very broad-bandwidth.
RCA/XLR outputs
The unbalanced outputs are intended for short cable runs where the power amplifier is located close to the Classic PRE. The balanced outputs are recommended for longer cable runs where the Classic PRE drives power amplifiers located directly next to the speakers or in an active speaker.
power supply
The Classic PRE power supply is based on a 74VA toroidal transformer that buffers the power via high-capacity audio capacitors. Within the circuit design, a total of 11 independent voltage regulators regulate the low-noise voltages in the downstream control circuits. The digital control circuits are powered by a separate power supply that is completely isolated from the signal circuits.
PSX-R
The Classic PRE features a connector for the PSX-R2 power supply. The PSX-R2's power supply is routed internally to the preamp's analog stages, ensuring a more stable, low-noise power supply for the analog preamp and post-DAC stages of the D/A converter.
Phono MM input
The phono MM input stage, derived from the award-winning phono signature, is equipped with two active gain stages and passive RIAA equalization.
