Aside from the usual work processes, Bejar left his lyrics and melodies (sometimes sung into his laptop at night at his kitchen table) to long-time Destroyer producer John Collins, who, with his tendency towards more harmonious sounds, was able to counter Bejar's original idea of the rough and unpolished sound. The result is a multi-layered, atmospheric album in which, every time you listen, new facets open up, as if you were getting used to a new room, a new environment or a new friend.
