Description
With the SPEKTOR series, we are once again opening up a product segment that was previously unknown to us: The SPEKTOR 1 hi-fi loudspeaker offers enormous sound potential at extremely affordable prices that have never been seen before with DALI.
The ultra-compact box, whose baffle is no larger than a DIN A5 sheet, has a 115 mm bass-midrange driver with a wood fiber cone and a 21 mm fabric tweeter dome. The SPEKTOR 1 is suitable for all applications where good sound from the smallest dimensions is required - as a front, rear or side loudspeaker in surround systems or as a solo entertainer for compact stereo systems.
Wide radiation
DALI speakers can be easily integrated into any living space thanks to their wide radiation characteristics. The chassis of the SPEKTOR series also meet this requirement. You will therefore experience an extremely spatial and self-contained sound image even if your seat is not within the classic stereo triangle directly opposite the speakers.
An additional advantage of this approach is the significantly reduced harmonic distortion and refraction, which negatively affects the sound, compared to on-axis playback. This is also the reason why all DALI speakers should not be angled towards the listening position.
tweeter
The SPEKTOR 1's tweeter has the task of reproducing high frequencies as faithfully and precisely as possible. This is only possible with very short but rapid membrane deflections - or rather: high acceleration. This means: You need the lowest possible mass and a powerful drive.
The 21 mm diaphragm of the SPEKTOR 1 tweeter is made of an ultra-light fabric. At 0.056 mg per square millimeter, the membrane material used by DALI weighs less than half than the fabric used in most commercially available dome tweeters.
A remarkable feature of the SPEKTOR tweeters is that they reproduce the frequencies they emit right up to the lower end of their transmission range without any significant dips or peaks. This is an important prerequisite for a seamless transition between the tweeter and mid-bass driver. If a tweeter had to play too far down or a woofer had to play too far up, this would lead to distortion and an unbalanced midrange.
Mid-bass driver
The proven wood fiber membranes have long since established themselves as a DALI trademark. They consist of a mixture of fine-grained paper and a wood pulp, which makes the cone very stable and particularly light and, thanks to the uneven membrane surface, unwanted surface resonances are reduced to a minimum.
The combination of the precisely manufactured wood fiber membrane with the low-loss vibrating beads and centering spiders enables flawless reproduction of even the finest musical details.
The structure of the basket, in which the surround, the membrane, the two-layer voice coil and the magnetic drive are mounted and which also serves to fix it in the baffle, is optimized for the highest possible stability and the best air flow. Vibrations within the material are therefore excluded and the air set in motion by the membrane can spread unhindered.
The combination of wood fiber membranes, low-loss beads and powerful magnet systems guarantees clean reproduction of even the finest details. In addition, a powerful magnet in conjunction with the extremely movable two-layer 25 mm voice coil ensures precise, well-timed and dynamic drive of the membrane.
Each woofer used in the SPEKTOR series was developed specifically for the respective model. Even details such as the angle of the cone membrane and the size of the dust cap have been optimized for the best possible radiation characteristics and sound quality.
Low losses
The primary task of every speaker is to convert the electrical signals coming from the amplifier into the most realistic listening experience possible. Any distortion or discoloration of the original signal by the speakers or cabinets will degrade the sound.
The most detailed audio signal possible can be achieved if only a little information is lost and the playback is balanced in terms of timing and across the entire frequency range and without audible transitions between the individual drivers. By using drivers developed exclusively by DALI and manufactured specifically for us, the crossovers do not require the corrections that would otherwise be necessary.
It is equally important to keep the distortion caused by the movements of the mechanical parts to a minimum. If the membrane, surround and voice coil do not move linearly, the connected amplifier is placed under excessive strain, which can cause the audio signal to lose details before it reaches the speaker.
