The Contour 30 is a step up from the 20. Of course, it still treads the same path - a path of honesty, transparency and pure entertainment, but it wraps it all up in a larger package.

Like the rest of the new Contour i Series, the 30i features the brand new Esotar 2i tweeter - complete with the Hexis Dome - found in Dynaudio's flagship Confidence Series and also in the Core Series of professional studio reference monitors (trickle-down Technology is an amazing thing, isn't it...). The Esotar 2i also gets a new, larger absorption chamber. This, along with Hexis, helps reduce unwanted resonances and flattens the frequency response for even clearer, sweeter high frequencies.

Dynaudio has equipped the Contour 30 with two 18 cm MSP drivers and doubled the rear bass reflex ports. Behind the scenes they've tweaked the spider (the springy ring that keeps the woofer in the right place when at rest and guides it in the right way when moving). This is made from aramid fibers and retains the ingenious structural properties of before (the ribs are of different widths to allow even finer control over the membrane's deflection).

Contour 30i continues to use aluminum voice coils. Dynaudio can make them extremely light - but also larger than the usual copper units you'll find elsewhere. Lighter weight allows for larger diameters with more windings while being lighter, meaning Dynaudio has more control over cone movement. And that means more control over the sound - especially at high frequencies and at high volumes - exactly what you need in a mid/woofer. Sure, Dynaudio has been experimenting with small voice coils on the new Contour - the size used by other companies. The measurements showed that they should work for Contour. The ears said otherwise, so they grew big. The ears were right.

And like the Contour 20i, the flatter frequency response of the upgraded tweeters and mid/woofers means the crossover could be simplified. Not that it wasn't pretty good before - but now...

The improved crossover no longer requires impedance correction to optimize its performance - this is now all done in the driver itself, simply due to the physical properties of the materials used. Fewer components, cleaner signal path, better performance.

While Dynaudio engineers and designers listened to everything from jazz to classical to metal and electronica, the manufacturing team looked to sustainable sources for quality materials and finishes. They ensure that all models in the Contour series are of furniture quality: perfectly manufactured, perfectly finished and perfectly packaged.
