Evoke 50
A strong statement
Large floorstanding loudspeakers for medium to large rooms.
A pair of Evoke 50 in a room is an unequivocal statement: "I'm serious". Experience Evoke in stereo. Experience Evoke as a multi-channel home theater system. However you hear (with) Evoke, the word 'epic' will come to mind.
The Evoke 50 is a three-way floorstanding speaker with a 28mm fabric tweeter, a 15cm neodymium midrange driver and two 18cm woofers.
The first highlight at the top
The Evoke 50 features Dynaudio's latest tweeter: Cerotar. This is a consistently redesigned component from the ground up. Key technologies from the award-winning Esotar Forty tweeter, the fantastic new Contour series and the technically and sonically stunning new Confidence are used here. The Dynaudio developers are very proud of it. And they should be.
Directly below the Precision Coated dome is the inner dome: Hexis. This ingenious component is located so close to the back of the cone that it may prevent reflection of unwanted resonant frequencies. It flattens the frequency response and provides clearer, cleaner, silkier highs. So you'll hear even more detail - and discover that there are triangles and cymbals never heard before in familiar recordings.
The heart of the Cerotar is a completely new strontium carbonate Ferrite+ ceramic magnet system. It provides greater sensitivity, which, from a musical perspective, simply means more sonic "honesty". In other words, you will hear what you want to hear. And because the playback is so smooth and natural, you'll be able to listen for hours without tiring your ears.
Solid foundation
Two Esotec+ woofers, each with a diameter of 18 cm, create the sound foundation. As with the Cerotar tweeter, technologies are used here that were developed for our high-priced speaker series Contour and Confidence. The Evoke is therefore the daughter of a real high-end family.
The woofers are made from MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer), a material we developed ourselves. We've been using it in our speaker cones since Dynaudio's early days - and so far we haven't found anything else that combines lightness, stiffness and damping in a comparable way. And what isn't broken doesn't need to be repaired.
However, while aluminum is now used in the 18 cm woofer in the Evoke 20 compact loudspeaker, copper is used in the Evoke 50. This is because these are pure woofers. These don't require the same fleet-footed agility as a dedicated midrange driver, so we were able to increase the mass to be moved. However, the 0.4 mm thick membrane is the same; as does the Ferrite+ ceramic magnet. You benefit from power and richness of detail. This is one of the solutions that Dynaudio found through extensive analysis and simulations in the Jupiter measuring system.
Each speaker cone is made from a single piece of MSP. This gives them just the right stiffness. At the same time, the physical distortions during playback are reduced. It also creates an extremely resilient physical connection to the rear fiberglass voice coil former (it's bonded just below the balance ribs you see around the center). This means that even more kinetic energy can be transferred from the voice coil to the cone.
Nomex spiders ensure proper alignment and movement of the entire ensemble. The surround derived from the new Contour, in turn, ensures a larger radiation area and correspondingly more "punch".
The two rear bass reflex openings are also equipped with two-piece foam inserts for maximum versatility. These make it easier to adjust the sound when you redecorate or move. They allow three tuning variants: fully open, half open and fully closed. In this way, you can adapt the bass reproduction of the speaker to its position and the sound characteristics of the listening room.
Dedicated midrange driver
The Evoke 50 is the only speaker in this speaker series that has a dedicated midrange driver. Therefore, the developers at Dynaudio Labs have decided on something special here. The 15cm diameter unit is taken directly from our high-end Contour range. And that means you can look forward to a powerful neodymium magnet, a 0.4 mm thin membrane and a glass fiber voice-coil former with the characteristic Dynaudio aluminum voice coil.
Why neodymium and not Ferrite+ as with the woofer? Because this element is light and strong. Why aluminum and not copper? Again: because it's light (and we can do more turns on the voice coil with the same weight). This combination of properties allows the team to control chassis deflection with tremendous precision. This also made it possible to achieve perfect tonal integration between the tweeter and woofer.
In fact, the Evoke team has done their job so well here that you can expect practically Contour-level performance from this midrange driver.
A simple and honest style
Designing such a large speaker without looking bulky and boxy is no easy task - but lead designer Louise Dalgaard took on the challenge. And the result is stunning. This was the first Evoke model to take shape on paper (and then in 3D software, as a clay model, as a full MDF prototype, and finally as a fully real product).
For Louise Dalgaard and the members of her team, it was imperative that the Evoke 50 would fit into people's homes and real lives. They were inspired by furniture designers, interior design showcases and model houses. And of course they also looked around in normal apartments and houses.
The result is "Instant Classic". Modern, "retro", timeless and at the same time cutting edge. The connoisseur will still look at such a speaker with pleasure in 30 years - and possibly think that the rest of his belongings seem a bit dreary in comparison.
The Evoke 50 is available in four stunningly beautiful finishes. Black High Gloss and White High Gloss use a new coating process that gives the speaker an almost glass-like, deep look. At the other end of the spectrum are the beautiful open natural veneers of the "Walnut Wood" and "Blonde Wood" variants.
Listen to Evoke - and rediscover your love for music.
