Behind the scenes

The Focus 30 represents more than 40 years of experience in the development of high-quality loudspeakers - a technical masterpiece that combines tradition and innovation.

Their drivers are classic Dynaudio craftsmanship. First there is the Cerotar fabric tweeter, whose sophisticated Hexis mechanism suppresses unwanted resonances, smoothes the frequency response and prevents listening fatigue. Two Esotec+ woofers/midrange drivers with a diameter of 14 cm are responsible for the mids and basses. If you're familiar with Dynaudio high-end speakers, you'll experience déjà vu here.

The Cerotar tweeter is based on the top-of-the-range Esotar 3, which provides brilliant high-frequency reproduction in the Confidence range. It uses a strontium carbonate ferrite+ ceramic magnet system to further increase sensitivity, which ensures optimized airflow. It enables a detailed and at the same time unobtrusive listening experience without tiring. This is how music makes you happy – until late at night.

The Esotec+ woofers/midrange drivers are made of MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) - a material that Dynaudio has developed in-house and has been refining over four decades. It offers just the right combination of lightness, stiffness and damping that allows us to precisely control the speaker cones at mid and low frequencies. The ensemble is complemented by a lightweight aluminum voice coil (which allows for greater accuracy and more precise control) and an improved magnet system that generates a larger driver excursion and thus ensures even more powerful bass and tidied up mid-range reproduction.

The closed housing enables the powerful amplification and the integrated digital signal processing (DSP) to be used consistently. The result is a real ensemble that combines particularly powerful bass, expressive mids and shimmering highs in an exciting way.

Not only smart, also powerful

The Focus 30 is active. Each chassis has its own amplifier. Three amplifiers per loudspeaker ensure that each individual membrane can show itself from its best side. In such a system, Dynaudio can leverage the strengths of each individual driver without having to make half-hearted compromises in adjacent frequency ranges. The tweeter uses a 110 watt amplifier and each woofer/midrange driver can handle a 280 watt powerhouse.

Dynaudio uses high-quality Class D amplifiers from partner company Pascal from Copenhagen. This collaboration has proven itself: even the flagship professional loudspeakers of the Core series (which are used in some of the best recording studios in the world) use Pascal amplifiers. Hi-Fi technology should eliminate the distance between what an artist creates in the recording studio and the listener.

The digital signal processing of the Focus speakers also serves this purpose. With a simple slider in the Dynaudio app, you can specify where a Focus speaker is placed - near a wall, in a corner, or free-standing. Playback is then optimized for this position. This is the same technology that Dynaudio use in their professional Core loudspeakers. You can even use optional Dirac Live calibration technology to perfectly tune the sound of the Focus system to your exacting standards.

The Focus speakers even "know" whether the magnetically fixed cover has been attached or removed - and optimize the equalizer setting accordingly. The signal reproduced by the loudspeakers is also constantly monitored. As soon as volume levels occur that could damage the chassis or amplifier, a special "sliding" high-pass filter reduces woofer excursion. In practice, this means that you can enjoy powerful bass even at lower volume levels and that the speakers at the other end of the spectrum can “give stuff”. Whether your neighbor is happy about it is another question.

Some active systems look more like disturbing visitors from the future in the living room. But do you really want to think and talk about extravagant cases when it's actually supposed to be about music? Dynaudio have therefore stuck to what they do best when designing the Focus 30: simple, Danish design; stylish and timeless.

But timeless does not mean "arbitrary". The Danes have studied current interior design trends and designed the speakers in the Focus product family to fit real people in real rooms. Look forward to high-quality housing, designed and manufactured with great attention to detail (details such as the brushed aluminum chassis mounts and the discreet Dynaudio logo on the covers are pleasing to the eye and curious fingertips).
