Dynaudio Focus 50

Large active wireless floorstanding speakers

The Focus 50 redefines wireless hi-fi at its best. The convenience of a modern consumer speaker system and the authority of Dynaudio's highest-end hi-fi speakers.

Focus 50 is an active wireless stereo speaker system with the best connections to the world of modern streaming technology. If you want to fill a room with truly audiophile sound without the hassles of cables, racks and components, you've found your dream system.

Apple AirPlay 2 connects your iPhone, iPad and MacBook wirelessly. Android smartphones, tablets or Chromebooks can control the Focus 50 via Google Chromecast. And with Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, you can use… well, anything Spotify and Tidal supports. Using Roon? Dynaudio is there. stream bluetooth? That's okay. And that's not all: connect your favorite physical players to the coaxial and optical digital inputs of the Focus 50, because your CD collection shouldn't be forgotten either. Even analogue devices (such as turntables, vintage tape machines or even an Edison concert phonograph...) can be connected to the line input or by means of an appropriate adapter. And for devices on your local network, the Focus 50 offers Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Or to put it succinctly: if something has been released as a recording… you can listen to it with the Focus 50. Your smartphone becomes the ticket for a high-resolution journey.

The Focus 50 is a premium speaker system, but it belongs in a living room, not a sterile listening lab. It was developed for people who would like to enjoy music in the best possible quality with family and friends. But remember, once you've sat down between these speakers, you won't want to leave anytime soon. And because large (home) cinema with excellent sound is even more fun, the Danes have equipped the Focus 50 with WiSA streaming technology. This allows it to connect wirelessly to your TV set and all components connected to it. This also eliminates the need to maintain a fleet of devices consisting of AV receivers and signal processors. The unsightly cable routes also disappear from the living room. And what's the catch now? Well, your cat will have to find another warm spot once you get rid of the bulky amplifier.

Easy setup, powerful performance

It would be amazing if it took more than five minutes from unpacking the Focus speakers to listening to them for the first time. Because we've put a lot of effort into making sure you don't have to. Simply connect the speakers to the mains, start the Dynaudio app on your smartphone and let us guide you through the setup step by step. The loudspeakers are already integrated into your home network, correctly configured and ready to play.

A Focus loudspeaker needs exactly one cable: namely to the nearest socket. Because the amplifier is already integrated here. In fact, there are even multiple amplifiers in each speaker, as each individual driver in a Focus 50 is driven directly by one. Each amplifier is specially tuned and optimized for the corresponding chassis. So there are no compromises with “one size fits all” amplifiers, no technically complex tuning of dust-attracting components – and no cables to trip over either. In short: What looks like a loudspeaker is actually a tailor-made hi-fi system.

In every Focus 50, three Class D amplifiers do their job. There is the 110 watt unit for the Cerotar tweeter, a 280 watt amplifier for the neodymium midrange driver and a 280 watt amplifier for the two Esotec+ woofers operated in parallel. All of these amps are manufactured by Dynaudio partner company Pascal in Copenhagen. This is the same company they worked with to develop the powerful hearts of the Core professional studio monitors. What can you expect from this equipment in terms of impulse resilience? Stunning 1000 watts. The drivers of the Focus 50 – and your ears – are in good hands here.

All of this power is harnessed with sophisticated digital signal processing. It's the same DSP technology they use in their Core and LYD professional studio monitors. When setting up the speakers, all you have to do in the app is specify their positions in the room (near a wall, in a corner or in free space). The playback behavior is then optimized for these positions. And if you want to calibrate your Focus system even more precisely - possibly with the support of a specialist company - you can use the optional Dirac Live technology.

Dynaudio even saved special equalizer settings that take into account whether the magnetically held speaker cover is attached or removed. And these EQ presets don't need to be activated. The automatic detection technology in the Focus 50 detects whether the cover is on or off. She even briefly flashes the "Y"-shaped light on the front in blue to confirm. Simple and subtle.

And to avoid damage to the loudspeakers due to excessive signal levels, Dynaudio has developed a special "sliding" high-pass filter that reduces the excursion of the woofers in the event of problematic level peaks. (By this time, however, the neighbors should have already made themselves known with their brooms.)

High-end expertise à la Dynaudio

Dynaudio is always happy when they can use components from the absolute premium products across the range. The Focus 50 uses processes and technologies that are also used in the passive high-end Contour and Confidence series.

This includes the Cerotar fabric tweeter with the Hexis inner dome. This is a particularly ingenious component located just behind the tweeter's reproduction surface. It optimizes the air flow and minimizes unwanted resonances. Behind this is a strontium carbonate ferrite+ ceramic magnet system that maximizes the sensitivity of the tweeter. In other words: You can look forward to a detailed and at the same time unobtrusive listening experience without tiring your ears.

At the lower end of its frequency range, the tweeter hands over to a dedicated midrange driver (which is actually unique to this model within the Focus range). It is based on a component of the award-winning Contour 60. It is a 15 cm diameter unit with a powerful neodymium magnet, a fiberglass voice-coil former and an aluminum voice-coil that is considered a Dynaudio trademark. In this module, particularly light materials are used for the coil and magnet, so that it responds particularly quickly and still has the important mids firmly under control. So you can enjoy a sound experience that doesn't have to hide behind the Contour.

Two Esotec+ woofers with a diameter of 18 cm provide the bass foundation. Technologies from the premium Confidence and Contour series ensure tight, powerful bass. Unlike the other Focus models, however, Dynaudio uses a copper voice coil inside the Ferrite+ magnet. Because these are pure woofers, you don't have to worry about the agility required of midrange drivers - and you can work with more moving mass.

Designed for real life

Focus also means: no gimmicks, no frills - just clear Danish design and genuine craftsmanship. From the anodized, brushed aluminum chassis bezels to the subtle Dynaudio logo on the speaker grille to the softly glowing front light whose color indicates the current operating status: Dynaudio engineers have optimized every detail of the Focus 50 so that you can enjoy it without worrying impose.

Run your fingers over the beautiful, open-grain surfaces of the Blonde Wood and Walnut Wood variants, or marvel at the transparent-looking High Gloss Black and High Gloss White finishes. Enjoy the minimalist case that gently tapers towards the back. Even the back plate with the connection elements has been carefully treated.

Focus 50 is the ultimate premium wireless hi-fi system. Here you can experience the synthesis of real audiophile quality and all the advantages of the latest digital streaming technology. Treat your ears to something new.
