Digital audio

The no. 5802 offers premium digital audio capabilities via the Mark Levinson PrecisionLink II DAC. The central element of the digital audio processing stage is a latest generation ESS Saber 32-bit D/A converter with jitter elimination and a fully balanced, discrete voltage converter. Six digital audio inputs are available: one AES, two coaxial and two optical S/PDIF, as well as an asynchronous USB port for playback of high-resolution PCM files (up to 32 bit / 384 kHz) and DSD files (up to 11.2MHz). The no. 5802 supports MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology for playback of MQA audio files and streams. Furthermore, a Bluetooth receiver with aptX-HD enables the highest quality Bluetooth playback.

Reinforcement

The fully discrete, direct-coupled Class AB amplifier channels are powered by a large (500 VA) toroidal transformer with individual secondary windings for the left and right channels. The voltage amplifier of the No. 5802 uses a topology that includes two high-speed Class A driver transistors and six output transistors operating at 260V and 15A. Two Thermal Trak systems ensure a stable output level independent of load and heat. Each channel is equipped with four 10,000 microfarad capacitors integrated directly into the output stage circuit board. These provide enough power for 125W per channel into 8 ohms or 250W per channel into 4 ohms and enable stable operation down to 2 ohms.

steering

The system integration and communication options of the No. 5802 are diverse and include Ethernet, USB, RS-232, IR inputs and 12V trigger inputs and outputs. An internal website allows setting up, importing and exporting configurations as well as software updates via a PC and a standard web browser. Third-party drivers are also available.

design

Robust materials, elaborate surfaces and striking geometry are characteristic of the Mark Levinson design. The one-inch-thick, bead-blasted, black anodized solid aluminum faceplates are precision machined and contoured to flow seamlessly into the smooth glass display, itself set into a clear anodized aluminum bezel. The iconic Mark Levinson hourglass buttons have been redefined to match the feet and milled into a gently curved profile that forms a smooth transition to the curved, bead-blasted, clear anodized front. An elegant 5000 series aluminum IR remote control is included.
