Two ways

The 700 series can also be compact: the Bowers & Wilkins 705 S3 is, genetically speaking, the little sister of the 702 S3 floorstanding speaker. As a compact two-way system, it operates quickly and focuses on the combination of a Carbon Dome tweeter and a Continuum Cone woofer/midrange driver. The low mass to be moved creates a natural, unbiased sound image that is hard to beat in terms of speed.

The 705 S3's Carbon Dome tweeter is housed in the familiar solid body tweeter-on-top enclosure found on the two top models of the 700 S3 series and derived from the latest generation of the 800 Diamond series. The new, subtly curved baffle contains the Continuum Cone woofer/midrange driver in its own separate enclosure. The result is an unparalleled sound with more bass than you might expect.

The new 700 S3 series

Solid Body Tweeter

The 700 series features the latest generation of the solid body tweeter. Its new, longer design results in even fewer reflections and an even more open treble response. The carefully decoupled enclosure is milled from a solid block of aluminum to prevent resonances even more effectively.

Carbon dome tweeter

The new carbon dome tweeter is specifically designed for the 700 series. It offers a dramatic improvement over the aluminum double dome tweeter from the 700 S2. The carbon dome tweeter is even more accurate in reproducing the upper frequencies and delivers a wealth of detail.

Midrange driver with Continuum™ diaphragm

For true technological advancement, one sometimes has to think outside the box. The transition from B&W's renowned yellow aramid fiber midrange cones to the new Continuum cone technology resulted in a massive improvement in midrange performance. Now, B&W engineers have turned their attention to another crucial element of the speaker cone: the spider. The new biomimetic suspension further revolutionizes midrange diaphragm performance. Unwanted air movement is effectively reduced. Thanks to its composite construction, the Continuum™ cone avoids the typical partial vibrations of a conventional drive unit. The result is a transparent midrange that must be heard to be believed.

Each three-way loudspeaker in the new 700 series features a special midrange cone that incorporates four key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum™ cone, FST™ technology, biomimetic suspension, and midrange decoupling, which improves the transition to the woofer.

Aerofoil™ Basses

The Aerofoil™ profiles of B&W woofers were developed using state-of-the-art computers. The variable-thickness bass diaphragm provides high rigidity and strength precisely where it's needed most, resulting in deep and dynamic bass.

The case

The new 700 series features a curved front baffle for the first time. The midrange and woofers are housed in separate enclosures, significantly reducing the negative influence of the cabinet. The best proof of this is the successful 800 series from Bowers & Wilkins.
