The Pro-Ject X2 is aimed at listeners who seek a turntable with real substance: a drive that doesn't simply play records, but rather presents them with a calm, controlled, and detailed soundstage. The X2's concept is based on mass, low resonance, and a precisely tuned mechanical construction. With its heavy acrylic platter, high-quality carbon/aluminum tonearm, and decoupled motor design, the X2 consistently prioritizes stability and sonic purity.
At the heart of the design is a 30 mm thick acrylic platter, weighing in at 2 kg, which provides an ideal foundation for smooth and quiet operation. The high mass reduces micro-vibrations and contributes to the motor's quiet running. Combined with electronically controlled motor regulation, the rotation remains stable – regardless of whether you're listening at 33, 45, or 78 RPM.
The 9-inch tonearm features a carbon and aluminum sandwich construction. It combines rigidity and damping, providing ideal conditions for precise record tracking. Its effective arm length of 230 mm, larger size, and the ability to precisely adjust both azimuth and VTA make it a tonearm suitable even for high-end cartridges. The X2 is also available with or without the in-house Pick it 2M Silver cartridge – a moving magnet (MM) system with silver-plated coils, optimally matched to the tonearm's geometry.
The motor suspension ensures additional quietness: The motor is decoupled from the main chassis via a precisely tuned TPE belt. This effectively absorbs unwanted vibrations and minimizes the transmission of mechanical resonances to the platter or tonearm. The three height-adjustable aluminum feet – also damped – stabilize the entire turntable and ensure a secure, resonance-free setup.
The X2 comes complete with a high-quality dust cover, a felt mat, and a semi-balanced phono cable. This makes it not only technically sophisticated but also practical: unpack, set up, connect – and immerse yourself directly in quiet, high-quality vinyl playback. Despite its precise drive design, it remains pleasantly uncomplicated in everyday use: minimal power consumption, intuitive speed selection at the touch of a button, solid construction, and a chassis that, at 10 kg, delivers impressive quietness.
