KEF LS50 Meta

Since the LS50 was launched in 2011, the technologies have constantly evolved. Our engineers have continued KEF's driver philosophy and searched for new technological breakthroughs. The result is an icon that meets the demand for innovation: the KEF LS50 Meta bookshelf speaker! Instantly recognizable as the successor to the LS50, the LS50 Meta springs from KEF's same desire for continuous development and is therefore fittingly the first speaker to use Metamaterial absorption technology*.

*Metamaterial absorption technology is a joint development with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group.

Technology: Metamaterial Absorption Technology

A truly revolutionary tool in KEF's acoustic arsenal, MAT is a highly complex maze-like structure, with each of the intricate channels efficiently absorbing a specific frequency. When combined, the channels act like an acoustic black hole, absorbing 99% of the unwanted frequencies emanating from the back of the tweeter, eliminating the resulting distortion and providing a purer, more natural acoustic performance.

12th generation Uni-Q

The tweeter is the heart of our 12th generation Uni-Q with MAT driver. The Uni-Q point source array delivers a more detailed, accurate and integrated three-dimensional sound image, distributed so evenly throughout the room that the 'sweet spot' can be found anywhere in the room. Using simulation and analysis tools and decades of accumulated knowledge, our engineers have developed a new twist on the signature KEF driver, with a new cone-neck decoupler and a new drive system precision-sculpted to reduce midrange treble distortion. The result is less coloration, less distortion, and a sound that's more transparent and lifelike than previously possible. The same can be said of the bass performance as well; The LS50 Meta also exceeds the expectations of a modestly proportioned bookshelf loudspeaker in this respect and offers a room-filling sound with deep, articulate bass.

port design

Much of the compelling performance is due to driver clarity, but port design is also crucial. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculates the flare and profile of the LS50 Meta's patented asymmetrically positioned flexible port to eliminate turbulence. In addition, the flexible port walls prevent resonances from discoloring the midrange. This results in enhanced clarity with exceptional depth and detail.

housing construction

Optimized for the best performance, the LS50 Meta's extremely rigid enclosure features smooth, curved surfaces that help ensure sound is radiated smoothly across the baffle. Inside the case, cross braces and CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) are combined to dampen internal vibrations. The result of this meticulous attention to detail is that the LS50 Meta produces the lowest sound coloration of any speaker in its class.

design

The LS50 Meta inherited its distinctive good looks from the original LS50. A low-diffraction curved baffle has been precisely modeled around the Uni-Q driver; the curved front is subtly mirrored by the gently rounded rear panel, while both the port output and speaker terminals have been elegantly recessed and visually relaxed.

Matching feet

The underside of the LS50 Meta has threads inserted at each corner, allowing the speaker to snap onto the top of the new KEF S2 stand. Just like its predecessor, the S1 stand, the S2 also has integrated cable management and a solid, resilient column. The LS50 Meta is available in four colors at launch, all benefitting from a modern satin finish, while the S2 stands are colour-matched to the models.

Available in four finishes: Carbon Black, Mineral White, Titanium Gray and Royal Blue Special Edition

The LS50 Meta bookshelf speakers meet all the criteria of the KEF promise. A true first in the speaker industry, the LS50 Meta uses innovative, groundbreaking technology to bring you immersive, totally immersive sound from a compact, stylish speaker that opens up whole new perspectives for enjoying your music .
