With the DUO MEZZOG3, Avantgarde presents its absolute top model in the Duo series, which was developed specifically for demanding listeners who, due to space restrictions, cannot accommodate the TRIO with their SPACEHORN, but do not want to forego the highest quality bass performance.

Inspired by legendary models of the last century, including Altec Lansing's Voice of the Theater A7, Tannoy's Westminster Royal SE, Elektro Voices Sentry III and JBL's 4435, the DUO MEZZO G3 combines powerful woofers with horns for mid and high frequencies.

The heart of the DUO MEZZO G3 is the innovative horn bass reflex system, which delivers uncompromising bass power and performance. The new generation of evolutionary drivers ensures increased dynamics, lower distortion and an even purer sound. The innovative XT3 tweeter with new 'Long Throw' horn offers an extended frequency range for the super tweeter and record-breakingly low distortion values.

A special highlight of the DUO MEZZOG3 is the coplanar arrangement of the acoustic center of all drivers, which ensures impressive musical and spatial coherence. The NatureCapPlusAA, a unique superconducting supercapacitor made of pure copper, gives the sound incredible finesse. The E-Fuse circuit ensures precise dynamic reproduction, while the optional iTRONAA Current Drive offers perfect control over driver performance and ultimate sound on the fully active DUO MEZZO G3.

EvolutionAA Driver Series

A perfect horn needs a perfect driver.

Behind every impressive horn there should be an equally impressive driver. At Avantgarde Acoustic, each drive unit is developed specifically and in collaboration with the corresponding horn. Since spherical wave horns place special technological demands on the driver and magnify inaccuracies tenfold - similar to an acoustic magnifying glass - we must take extreme care when developing our drivers. More than five years of ingenious, experimental, improving, measuring and listening work were necessary to create the new EvolutionAA driver series. Horn and driver have been perfectly matched and merged into a single, coherent unit of outstanding quality and performance.

The ideal frequency response for the perfect sound.

A horn amplifies more efficiently the lower the frequency. In order to achieve a perfectly balanced sound, our drivers must reproduce higher tones louder. That's why traditional drivers simply don't work in a horn speaker. This means that not only is every driver designed by Avantgarde itself, but every EvolutionAA driver is carefully designed and tuned for a specific purpose.

Unlimited power

The air column in the horn provides greater resistance and is more closely coupled to the movement of the driver than in speakers without a horn. To overcome this initial mechanical impedance, our drivers must be equipped with significantly more powerful magnet assemblies and motors. Compare our EvolutionAA horn speakers to similar sized conventional drive units and you will find that they produce significantly more power. To achieve this we must use the most sophisticated design, technology and construction, combined with superior, costly magnetic materials: U-Yokes made from 0.05% low carbon steel, Y40 grade ferrites and exotic rare earths such as cobalt and alnico.

Precision is the result of attention to detail

Because horns amplify sound with exceptional efficiency, any distortion or nonlinearity in the driver will also be amplified accordingly. That's why our EvolutionAA Series drivers must meet performance, consistency and quality control standards ten times higher than traditional design and manufacturing processes.

HiTec membrane – stable as a rock in the sea

Think about the membranes in the drivers. Positioned between the air mass in the horn and the force of the magnetic engine, they exist in a world where a seemingly immovable object is constantly under attack by an irresistible force. Avantgarde Acoustic's diaphragm and suspension systems are also specifically designed to resist torsional forces due to their smaller dimensions. The three-layer material structure encloses a rigid core material between two anti-resonant coatings. The result is an incredibly stiff component that still has the best self-damping in its class.

SphericDomeAA membrane

The spherical dome geometry used for the diaphragms in the EvolutionAA drivers is precisely matched to the corresponding horn element to ensure a phase-coherent sound pressure curve within the horn. The perfect radiation of the sound waves is crucial for the final performance.

AirGateAA technology

By precisely controlling the chamber that connects the driver diaphragm to the horn mouth, high-frequency distortion can be filtered and reduced by a factor of four. This natural phenomenon causes distortions to literally disappear into thin air.

More resistance for more control

The Omega voice coil technology used in the EvolutionAA G3 Series drivers gives them extremely high electrical impedance, making them very easy to drive. This effortless driving characteristic allows amplifiers to perform at their best and speaker cables to sound better than ever. The speaker has more authority, less distortion and more control for a more precise response.

SingleFrameAA

The new G3 Series SingleFrameAA drivers use robust, cast baskets that also enclose the motor elements and provide a stable mechanical foundation for the moving components of the EvolutionAA drivers.

In-phase response

When redesigning the EvolutionAA drivers, Avantgarde Acoustic managed to significantly improve the phase response of the drivers across their respective frequency ranges. With phase-coherent output, all frequencies are emitted simultaneously, avoiding frequency-related jumps or jumps in volume and preserving spatial relationships within the recording.

Engineering a coplanar driver arrangement

In the G3 series, all drivers are in exactly the same layer. This means that their acoustic centers are perfectly aligned, creating an identical distance from each sound source to the listener. The signals from each source (tweeter, midrange and woofer) reach the listener at exactly the right time and in the right musical relationship. The DUO MEZZOG3 does not need to be tilted forward or backward to adjust the speaker to the listening position. The tweeter's phasing can instead be adjusted using a special rotating mechanism that allows the tweeter to be moved forward or backward. If the listening position is too low or too high, the position of the tweeter can now be precisely adjusted using a knob on the top of the housing.

The art of fine heights

The sensitivity of human hearing decreases above 5,000 hertz, but musical overtones and harmonies are crucial to the individual instrument sound. Accurately reproduced harmonics are crucial for identifying specific voices or instruments, creating an airy, open soundstage, and accurately locating individual sounds in space. The DUO MEZZOG3 relies on the brand new XT3 tweeter.

This represents a radical change from Avantgarde Acoustic's previous designs, with every aspect of the driver and horn redesigned. Additionally, an all-new horn profile with a much longer neck section has been developed, along with a new driver, to deliver fantastic measurements and superior sonic performance.

200mm 'Longthrow' horn.

Improving high frequency performance required redesigning the horn and driver from the ground up. The result is a completely new tweeter horn. At 200mm in diameter, it is 20mm wider than the old XD horn, with a 25% increase in radiating area. At the same time, we increased the length from 85 mm to an enormous 176 mm. This gives us a lower cutoff frequency with significantly increased acoustic performance. This allows the horn to operate with a much smaller diaphragm.

Annular membrane & duplex suspension

Unlike the dome shape of the XD tweeter, the new EvolutionAA XT3 tweeter uses an entirely new geometry. Its annular membrane with duplex guides on the inner and outer edges is lighter and at the same time mechanically stronger, ideally suited to withstand the higher back pressure of the new 200 mm horn.

Record low distortion levels

With the new EvolutionAA XT3 high frequency driver, THD levels are 10 dB lower than the XD tweeter and 50 dB lower than the actual music signal. Distortion levels have been reduced from 1% to a record-breaking 0.32% compared to its predecessor.

Higher efficiency – pure sound

The new tweeter horn has succeeded in squeezing even more sound pressure from a smaller and lighter membrane. In the lower frequency range, the DUO MEZZO G3 achieve a record-breaking sound pressure of 115 dB with a clean, upward frequency response. This uses a higher frequency for the high-pass filter to improve the power handling and headroom of the EvolutionAA XT3 compared to the previous model.

Perfect timing and no phase shifts

The new EvolutionAA XT3 high frequency driver achieves reference values when measuring time shift across the frequency range. With a linear phase progression of less than 50 degrees (4,000 - 20,000 Hz), this exceptional driver is in a league of its own, capable of reproducing even the highest frequencies without timing errors.

28,000 oscillations per second

The EvolutionAA XT3 tweeter's lighter, annular diaphragm can vibrate much faster than anything Avantgarde Acoustic have achieved before. This extends the frequency range up to 28,000 Hz and ensures greater clarity, focus and harmonic resolution - for a fuller and more natural sound.

XM2 – the midrange unit

The forgotten beauty of sound

When people talk about quality sound, they talk a lot about treble and even more about bass. But hardly anyone mentions the upper bass (or fundamental) and midrange. But 200 - 4,000 Hz is not only the range in which our ears are most sensitive, but also the range in which the human voice and most instruments are located. Over 80% of our auditory perception (and musical appreciation) occurs in this area.

For Avantgarde Acoustic - no matter how high the treble or how deep the bass - the quality of the lower midrange is crucial to the quality of a high-end audio system. This middle tone carries the essence, the actual 'soul' of the music.

It's very difficult to achieve lightning-fast playback in this area with horns, which is why this is where the wheat is separated from the chaff in high-end audio. This is where the sound goes from good to 'extraterrestrial'. When this range is correct, the sound is perceived as warmer and fuller. At the same time, the dynamics of the bass harmonies give the music an unexpected energy, precision and presence from the low frequencies to the upper midrange.

670-370-100 – Fantastic vital stats

The spherical wave horn of the XM2 midrange driver has a diameter of 670 mm, a length of 370 mm and a horn neck opening of 100 mm. Not only is this pretty big, but it's also pretty unique and, let's be honest, just pretty. And because it's so large, it easily covers the frequency range from 170 Hz to 4,000 Hz with a stunning sensitivity of 107 dB.

An extraordinary machine

In order to achieve power levels in the low frequency range that push the limits of what is technically possible, you need one thing above all: power. That's why the new EvolutionAA XM2 midrange horn speaker has been equipped with the best rare earth magnets. InnerCoreAA magnets have also been added to the space within the voice coil mold for an even stronger magnetic field. Pure power for purely explosive sounds.

The perfect crossover

The function of a crossover in a multi-way speaker is to prevent the same frequencies from being produced by different drivers at the same time. When this happens, the tones may overlap, resonate, or cancel each other out. These interferences must be avoided at all costs to ensure credible, high-quality music reproduction - reproduced music that sounds like life. If the horn is the soul of an avant-garde acoustic speaker, then the crossover is the beating heart. This is a challenge that many loudspeaker designs fail at - a challenge that the sound designers from Lautertal have taken on very seriously, developing components and unique technologies to overcome this crucial problem.

SPHERICLOWCUT TECHNOLOGY

Each of the spherical Avantgarde Acoustic horns can only reproduce low tones up to a certain, clearly defined frequency. If the wavelength of the notes becomes larger than the dimensions of the horn, these tones cannot be transmitted properly. They will be filtered automatically. Through careful calculation and without additional components, Avantgarde horn speakers use SphericLowCut AA technology to achieve a perfect, absolutely natural low pass - the most efficient filter based solely on physical laws and free of artificial artifacts.

AIRGATE AA TECHNOLOGY

With the AirGate AA technology used for the midrange, we have developed an innovative passive technology that filters high frequencies without integrating a single component into the signal path. Unique, innovative and without the typical negative side effects.

NATURE CAP PLUS

The DUO MEZZO G3 crossover has been redesigned with a new circuit design and new NatureCapPlus AA capacitors. Unlike the traditional NatureCapAA, the NatureCapPlus AA capacitor has a specially designed foil instead of aluminum. This film has improved conductivity and other electrical properties that have a very positive effect on sound quality. A cellulose fiber compound soaked in biological oils is used as a dielectric. It is an extremely complex and expensive process, but due to the much heavier weight of the solid film and the dampening properties of the oils, it is also much less susceptible to high frequency vibrations.

The newly developed NatureCapPlus AA capacitors are approximately 25 times larger and significantly heavier than the capacitors from the XD series. Just to achieve stable attachment to the circuit board requires specially manufactured brackets. It may be difficult to build and difficult to use, but the NatureCapPlus AA capacitor sounds wonderful.

POLARIZATION PLUS CIRCUIT

To prevent the NatureCapPlus AA's dielectric field from oscillating with the changing polarity of the music signal, the magnetic orientation of each capacitor is fixed with a small DC circuit. This unique PolarizationPlus AA circuit makes polarity completely stable and allows for cleaner processing of incremental signal changes.
