Progressive Audio Extreme I USM Haller
With the Extreme I, Progressive Audio presents a loudspeaker that is consistently designed for precision, time alignment, and musical authenticity. At the heart of this concept is an exceptionally sophisticated 2-way coaxial system that reproduces sound events so naturally and cohesively, as if they were emanating from a single source.
The development focused on one clear goal: the acoustic reversal of the characteristics of a studio microphone. The result is a loudspeaker with linear amplitude, precise time response, and an impedance that remains constant across the entire frequency range. This virtually eliminates the typical characteristics of a multi-way system – music sounds free, coherent, and natural in the room.
The constant impedance is a crucial advantage: even low-power transistor amplifiers or high-resolution tube amplifiers with transformers are optimally supported. The Extreme I reacts sensitively to every amplifier characteristic and makes its sonic qualities audible without becoming a burden itself. Its outstanding dynamic response even allows it to be used with the smallest triode amplifiers.
Whether at very low volumes or high volumes, the Extreme I remains consistently composed. The finest details, voices, and instruments retain their natural airiness, while even in the deep bass range, no substance is lost. At high volumes, it impresses with its stability and impulse response, without compression or sonic harshness.
The enclosure is made entirely of specially hardened acrylic, which undergoes a multi-hour heat treatment process. This material is characterized by exceptionally high internal damping and effectively prevents enclosure resonances. As a result, sound is generated exclusively where it should be: at the speaker driver itself.
The Extreme I is not an attempt to reinvent the familiar. Rather, it is the result of an uncompromising implementation of physical principles – with the aim of making music as pure and emotionally engaging as possible. A loudspeaker for listeners who are tired of compromises and want to experience music in its entirety once again.
