MX180
For the home cinema of today and tomorrow
The MX180 A/V Processor prepares you for the future of home cinema: With an increasing number of blockbuster films being streamed directly to the home, a state-of-the-art home theater system is required to fully immerse yourself in the movie experience. With its advanced customization and processing capabilities, the MX180 allows you to fully enjoy today's 4K video and tomorrow's 8K content.
The MX180 A/V Processor supports 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz on all 7 Ultra High Speed HDMI ports (5 in and 2 out). Each supports HDCP 2.3, 4:4:4 color, Rec. 2020, dynamic lip sync, Quick Media Switching (QMS) that eliminates the lag that can cause blank screens before content is displayed, and 3D video pass-through. The HDMI outputs can either output the same source material to two separate screens simultaneously, or output different content from two different sources to two separate screens simultaneously. The use of Ultra High Speed HDMI cables is required to take full advantage of the MX180's HDMI capabilities.
In order to produce the most lifelike and realistic image possible, the MX180 supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range formats: HDR (static HDR), dynamic HDR, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision (including low latency). These technologies ensure that every moment of a video is presented with the ideal values for depth, detail, brightness, contrast and color - scene by scene or even frame by frame. Other enhanced HDMI video capabilities on the MX180 improve gaming performance by providing smooth and seamless motion and transitions. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) automatically sets the ideal latency for smooth, lag-free, and uninterrupted viewing and interactivity. Quick Frame Transport (QFT) reduces latency for smoother, lag-free gaming and real-time interactive virtual reality. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) reduces or eliminates lag, stuttering and frame tearing for smoother and more detailed gameplay.
For a truly immersive home theater experience, the MX180 is compatible with all leading 3D surround sound formats including Dolby® Atmos, DTS:X® Pro and Auro-3D®. An HDMI output offers both Audio Return Channel (ARC) and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) functionality. ARC allows a compatible TV to send audio data to the audio-video processor via the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for separate audio cables. The more advanced eARC offers greater bandwidth, allowing higher resolution audio formats such as DTS-HD Master Audio™, DTS:X®, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos to be sent over the HDMI cable, enabling the MX180 to deliver the best possible sound quality (The TV must be ARC/eARC compatible).
The MX180 features a wide range of digital inputs consisting of 4 optical, 3 coaxial and 1 USB input, each capable of handling signals up to 24-bit/192kHz, and 1 balanced digital input (AES/EBU). There is also a range of analogue audio inputs consisting of 2 balanced and 4 unbalanced inputs, a moving magnet phono input for connecting a turntable and a 7.1 multi-channel unbalanced input. Up to 16 channels are available for discrete decoding. Analog audio is sent to your home theater amplifiers via balanced outputs, including popular 15.1 or 9.1.6 surround sound speaker configurations. This allows you to use a variety of home theater speakers to create an expansive, cinematic soundstage. Depending on your speaker layout, 4 of the outputs can be used to bi-amp some of your speakers or to drive additional subwoofers.
To make every seat the best seat in your home theater, it also features advanced RoomPerfect™ room correction technology, which measures and adjusts the audio output to compensate for the specific acoustic characteristics of your room (calibration microphone and stand included). Combined with RoomPerfect, the MX180 gives you a home theater surround sound system with optimized frequency response, calibrated speaker volume and bass control that pairs your speakers perfectly with your subwoofer(s). You also get additional flexibility in speaker selection and placement.
The MX180 features some of the latest analog-to-digital converter technology to maximize the audio quality of your analog sources. All analog and digital devices can be named to simplify system operation. Volume levels can be adjusted to avoid annoying volume fluctuations when switching between sources. Bass and treble controls allow further fine-tuning of the sound. The MX180 also features a two-channel Zone B output for sending stereo audio to a second zone in your home. Utilizing the latest technological advances in processing power, the MX180 runs cooler than previous McIntosh home theater processors. It features a robust, easy-to-use setup program that allows extensive customization and optimization based on your specific home theater and speaker needs.
The MX180 has the typically timeless McIntosh look with its black glass front, control knobs, illuminated logo and custom aluminum end caps. It can be combined with a variety of amplifiers and speakers for a complete home theater system.
