We take sound enthusiasm seriously
Since Nordost was founded, we have amassed a wealth of unique knowledge that allows us to design and manufacture truly great cables. Nordost has been deeply committed to research and development for many years. In addition to our own research and development, we work with independent contractors. A few years ago, we undertook an extensive project with Acuity, a UK signal research facility, to measure and validate the sound improvements that music listeners describe with certain cables. The results of this research have led to new technologies such as the HOLO:PLUGÖ connectors.
The Valhalla 2 Digital Cable
Digital signals also need to be transmitted with extreme precision, which requires strict adherence to digital cable termination specifications. To achieve the best possible performance with high-resolution digital systems, it is of utmost importance that digital cables meet termination standards. The Valhalla 2 digital signal cable features our latest dual mono filament construction to mechanically dampen its silver-plated solid core copper conductors. At the same time, this construction reduces dielectric contact by more than 85%.
The Valhalla 2 digital cable is available in two versions: a 75 Ohm version and a 110 Ohm AES/EBU version. To ensure the impedance is maintained precisely, we use a single conductor in the 75 Ohm version, while the 110 Ohm version contains two conductors. Two layers of silver-made shielding are applied around these conductors. Like all Valhalla cables, the digital signal cables are hand-made in the USA. The 75 Ohm cable is terminated with BNC connectors and supplied with gold-plated RCA adapters. The 110 Ohm cable is assembled with gold-plated XLR connectors. To ensure that these connectors have a minimal influence on the signal transmission, we select the connectors used strictly according to their impedance behavior and their sound properties.
