GRYPHON

DIABLO 120 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

Gryphon Audio Designs is proud to present the next generation of the Atilla, the Gryphon Diablo 120, based on Gryphon's experience with these uncompromising reference components.

Gryphon Diablo 120 exudes timeless elegance and beauty, shaped by the unique vision of Gryphon founder and CEO Flemming E. Rasmussen.

Integrated Greatness

The simple design and powerful lines of the satin black brushed aluminum housing and the shimmering black acrylic front panel represent an excellent level of fit and finish, exceptional sonic finesse and the feeling of unlimited power in a single housing.

Composed of interlocking blocks of pristine acrylic and deeply brushed and anodized aluminum, the case is, true to the celebrated Gryphon house style, a complex construct of contrasting angles and surfaces that is both reassuringly intricate and impressively solid.

Built entirely in Gryphon's Danish R&D and manufacturing facility, the Diablo 120 features the dual mono circuitry, ultra-short signal path, heavily gold-plated PCBs, minimal internal wiring, high-quality gold-plated and PTFE-insulated jacks and proprietary binding posts used in our flagship models. Only the finest audiophile components were selected after extensive testing for sound quality, thermal stability and long-term reliability. The wire-wound emitter resistors in the original Atilla output stage have been changed to non-inductive types for the Diablo 120.

The careful attention to electrical and mechanical grounding that is typical of our top products is also found here.

The Diablo 120 integrated amplifier is essentially two independent mono units to minimize crosstalk and interaction between channels. The only thing the channels share electrically is the famous Holmgren toroidal transformer and the power cord.

The custom-built 1,300 VA transformer with separate secondaries for the left and right channels adds considerable weight. Each channel is fed by its own 60,000 µF capacitor bank.

The Diablo 120's output power is 20% higher than the original Atilla: 2 x 120W (8O), 2 x 240W (4O), 2 x 440W (2O). The constant increase in output power while halving the impedance is a reliable indicator of exceptional high-current capability, just as the exceptionally wide audio bandwidth of 0.1Hz to 250kHz (-3dB) is a sign of extreme stability. The heatsink area has also been increased to accommodate the increased output power.

With two pairs of Sanken transistors, the Diablo 120 can drive even difficult speaker loads easily and without the slightest tension.

Ultimate sound purity

The Diablo 120's circuitry uses no global negative feedback and a unique microprocessor-controlled passive attenuator for the most transparent volume control ever developed. Regardless of the selected level, the 46-stage relay attenuator places a maximum of six resistors in the signal path for ultimate sonic purity.

Instead of a conventional LED character display, a large, graphic vacuum fluorescent display is used, providing space for more information and a larger, more legible font. The elaborate display and extensive control circuits are powered independently from each other via a separate, isolated transformer to eliminate any risk of noise contamination. All front panel controls are touch sensitive (capacitive actuation).

The Diablo 120 offers one balanced and four unbalanced inputs, an extensive menu of configuration options (four display brightness levels, user-defined start and maximum volume settings, individual source labeling with eight-character names and a dedicated and electrically isolated A/V bypass function for uncompromising integration into a multi-channel audio system.

Award-winning digital-to-analog converter

The Gryphon Diablo 120 can be equipped at purchase or at a later date with a specially developed Gryphon DAC PCM/DSD module based on the innovative, award-winning Gryphon Kalliope digital-to-analog converter.

The module adds four digital inputs (USB, balanced AES/EBU 115 O, TOSLink optical and BNC S/PDIF 75 O). Via USB, the Diablo 120 DAC module can process PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD (under Windows OS up to DSD512, under Mac OS up to DSD128, under Linux OS up to DSD128 DoP); via BNC S/PDIF and AES/EBU inputs up to 192 kHz/32-bit PCM and via TOSLink up to 96 kHz/24-bit PCM. The format compatibility of the various inputs is subject to change without prior notice.

This future-proof digital module is ready for any current or foreseeable high-resolution digital format.

In the best Gryphon tradition, the Diablo 120 also offers the alternative of an exceptional MM/MC phono stage for those dedicated enthusiasts who want to continue to enjoy their vinyl treasures.

Harmonious refinement

The Gryphon Diablo 120 delivers music with unusual composure and exceptional subtlety and definition. Lightning-fast reflexes combine with harmonic richness, articulation and refinement to create a lush whole that is very pleasant to listen to over extended periods, even at realistic levels.

The Gryphon Diablo 120 offers a unique level of musical enthusiasm and energy that will provide years of enjoyment.
