Distortion is added to any power cable, especially stranded cables, no matter how perfect the power source. Even the most sophisticated filters and power supplies cannot eliminate this cable-related distortion.
SOLID CONDUCTORS MADE OF LONG CRYSTALLINE COPPER (LGC)
Solid conductors prevent distortion caused by strands interfering with each other. The solid long-crystalline copper (LGC) in the Evergreen allows for a more balanced, clearer sound than cables with the usual oxygen-free high-conductivity copper (OFHC). OFHC is a general metals industry specification that looks at 'losses' without any consideration of distortion. LGC has fewer oxides in the conductive material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries and offers significantly better performance.
COUNTER-SPIRAL GEOMETRY
The positive conductors in the NRG-2 power cord are grouped internally in a circular spiral that rotates in one direction. The negative conductors are arranged around this inner group in a counter-rotating spiral. Even when the positive and negative conductors cross each other instead of running parallel to each other, the relationship of the positive and negative groups to each other is fixed without changing, staying true to one of AudioQuest's key design principles: consistency. The result is surprising clarity - like focusing a camera that you didn't know was out of focus.
COLD WELDING SYSTEM
This innovative connector design enables a perfect heat-free connection between cable and connector. The connection between the connector and the conductors is made using AQ's cold welding system. This creates a high-quality connection that completely preserves the structural integrity of the conductors. The cold welding system consists of a combination of high pressure at the contact point and the use of copper or silver impregnated paste.
