Newly developed membranes with an acoustic speed similar to that of beryllium

The NS-5000's tweeter, mid-range driver and woofer have 100%*1 ZYLON® cones. Made in Japan, this synthetic fiber is rated as the world's strongest*2 and is also characterized by optimum elasticity. Yamaha uses its proprietary Monel alloy vapor deposition method for manufacture. The soft dome membrane reduces peaks and dips in the frequency response that can be caused by the natural resonance of the membrane. At the same time, the high acoustic speed of ZYLON® comes into play, which is comparable to beryllium - which is often regarded as the ideal material for membranes due to its hardness, rigidity and low weight. The result is a remarkably flat frequency response with consistent tone color and quick response across the frequency spectrum. This creates a particularly pleasant listening experience with extremely precise sound reproduction at the highest level.

Newly developed RS (Resonance Suppression) chambers reduce disruptive resonances in the mids and highs

The newly developed RS chambers (patent pending) are attached to the rear of the tweeter and midrange driver, which suppress disruptive resonances behind the membrane. Two specially shaped tubes, precisely calculated using our proprietary acoustic analysis, eliminate the resonances. These RS chambers enable higher-resolution audio reproduction because larger amounts of sound-absorbing material are not required. Such dampening material tends to affect the speaker's frequency response and attenuate subtle nuances in the sound.

30 cm (12") 3-way speaker design takes up the tradition of the legendary NS-1000M

Due to our meticulous research into different cabinet types during the development of the NS-5000, we decided on a compact speaker design. It continues the legacy of the legendary NS-1000M, Yamaha's most successful monitor speaker of all time. The bass reflex enclosure has a volume of 65 liters - the smallest possible size for a 30 cm (12 inch) 3-way configuration. In addition to the 3-way tongue and groove process, other traditional manufacturing methods are also used for the solid construction. The cabinet reinforcement bracing is based on our FEM analysis and eliminates cabinet resonances due to delayed vibration of the six cabinet sides. In addition, the "Twisted Flare Port" prevents the formation of air turbulence at the opening and the associated background noise that is typical of the bass reflex design. Not only is the low-frequency resolution improved, but the signal-to-noise ratio is also increased.

Carefully laminated plywood cabinet made from Japanese white birch from the island of Hokkaido

When selecting the material for the NS-5000's cabinet, we conducted extensive studies on the mechanical strength and acoustic properties of various materials. We also examined the quality of native woods, where every adhesion and every knothole has been painstakingly removed - especially with regard to the necessary durability with long-term use. Finally, we settled on laminated plywood made from white birch from the island of Hokkaido. This birch wood is grown using organic forestry techniques. It is obtained from thinning in a particularly environmentally friendly manner. For optimum cabinet rigidity, the front baffle is 29.5mm thick, the other sides of the cabinet are 20mm thick (excluding varnish and paint thickness).

Newly developed acoustic absorber replaces sound-absorbing material for lively music with full presence

The cuboid housing combines standing waves with a specific frequency, which is then eliminated by the newly developed acoustic absorber (patent pending). This technology replaces the previously used large amounts of sound-absorbing material inside the cabinet. In this way, standing waves can be eliminated extremely efficiently and with particular precision. This guarantees a lively, present music reproduction that was previously impaired by sound absorption.

Glossy black piano finish improves the signal-to-noise ratio and offers a luxurious visual experience

All six outer walls of the housing are painted with black piano finish. The same primer, paint and polish are used as for the renowned Yamaha concert grand pianos. The uniform, hard surface contributes to the rigidity of the housing and also suppresses subtle vibrations. It supports the bright sound and significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio.

crossover

All drivers of the NS-5000 are connected in positive phase in single wiring to deliver a natural, comfortable listening experience. The crossover components are mounted on a double-sided printed circuit board with extra thick 140µ copper traces. The shorter signal path on the circuit board minimizes transmission losses. In order to keep the signal loss as low as possible, we have also used only hand-picked components of the highest quality: For example, the induction-free MCap SUPREME EVO audio capacitor, which is manufactured by Mundorf in Germany and is known as the best capacitor for audio applications, Mundorf's MResist SUPREME attenuator and a woofer coil that weighs almost 1.6kg.

speaker stands

Speaker stand specially designed for the NS-5000

When designing the SPS-5000, sophisticated simulation analysis was performed to design a stand that would support the NS-5000 solidly without emitting unwanted noise. The legs have smooth curved surfaces and are all set at a 42 degree angle to the baffle surface to effectively minimize the effect of sound reflection from the speaker. Also, to match the ear height of a seated listener with the height of the NS-5000's tweeter, the stand is set at a height of 304mm (12') (including spikes) - higher than that of a standard 30cm (12') bookshelf speaker, so that reflections from the floor surface are also minimized.

Exceptionally strong 8 kg (17.6 lbs.) stand with solid aluminum legs offers overwhelming vibration resistance

The four legs that firmly support the speaker are made of solid aluminum and the total weight of 8 kg (17.6 lbs.) gives the stand tremendous vibration resistance, which keeps speaker vibration to an absolute minimum.

Cut steel spikes and fitted with height adjusters to eliminate inconsistency

The SPS-5000's legs allow height adjustment with the included spikes to limit unnecessary stand vibration. The spikes can be removed to stand on the rubber feet depending on the installation location. The stand is also equipped with height adjustment mechanisms (spacers) to prevent speaker instability. Dedicated screws for attaching the speaker to the stand are also included.
