With this speaker, which features a groundbreaking design, the main focus is on the sound: this is how the essence of the Kanta can be summed up in a few words! Three years of research & development have resulted in this model that brings the series to life - the Kanta N°2. With a new material and a design at the service of sound, this speaker is straight from the mind of our engineers. Focal offers a combination of exclusive technologies that are absolutely new: the mix of beryllium for the latest generation of the IAL3 tweeter and flax for the midrange and woofer chassis. The result is a precise, balanced, warm and pure sound! A new era is beginning for sound enthusiasts... Another advantage of the Kanta: the numerous finishes available! The eight glossy or matt front finishes allow numerous combinations. With so many different designs - from the unprecedented to the very classic - there is something for every taste. Material mix - beryllium and flax
For the first time a speaker with Flax sandwich cone meets a beryllium tweeter! In fact, flax contributes to the perfect blend of low mass, strength and damping, leading to the desired result: clearer, more accurate sound. This unique combination of flax and beryllium gives music incredible warmth and purity. Made in France, the patented flax cone has already proven itself in Focal loudspeakers for homes and vehicles. The TMD surround (Tuned Mass Damping) is used again for the mid-range speaker, and all speakers in the Kanta are also equipped with an NIC drive (neutral inductance circuit), which stabilizes the magnetic field for a clearly defined sound and better controlled bass.
Art joinery - high density polymer
Everything is geared towards a warm yet clear sound: both the density and solidity of the materials on the front and the housing, the soft edges and the two bass reflex openings. A new material was used for the front, which favors the acoustics. The loudspeaker is made of one piece and consists of high-density polymer (HDP high-density polymer). This material has special features: It is 70% denser than MDF fiberboard, 15% stronger and also offers 25% more internal damping. Thanks to the one-piece front, there is no more diffraction. The Kanta features Power Flow technology with two bass reflex ports - one on the front and one on the back - to reduce compression in low frequencies.
New Tweeter - Distortion is the enemy
Focal's research aims to reduce distortion - the enemy of emotions in music - in all pitches. With the Kanta, the high notes are reproduced by an all-new pure beryllium tweeter. This IAL 3 tweeter combines the characteristics of an IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and an IHL (Infinite Horn loading) tweeter, both of which favor the absorption of waves in order to lower the resonance frequency of the tweeter.
Stylish - That's all...
The engineers have revised the 'Focus-Time' structure for the optimal alignment of the loudspeakers so that they are at the same distance from the listener. The back cover is made from a single piece of molded plywood. The zamak base also gives the speaker character. Thanks to the spikes and the pads, the base ensures high stability despite the extremely low ground contact. Last details: the top cover glass plate and the magnetic fixation of the covers. When the covers are removed, the speakers' flax cone can be seen, giving the design that certain something and the Kanta its unique look!
Designs - trendy or classic
Numerous combinations are possible so that there is something for every furnishing style. The rear housing is available in black high gloss and in walnut veneer (Walnut). For each of these finishes, a front is available in four different colors in two versions. For the rear case in high gloss: 4 fronts - Carrara White, Gauloise Blue, Solar Yellow and Black Lacquer in high gloss finish. For the Walnut Veneer Back Case: 4 Faces - Ivory, Warm Taupe, Gauloise Blue and Dark Gray in Matt.
