Even high-quality hi-fi components can only reach their full sonic potential if the power supply is also reliable. However, in modern households, the electrical grid is often burdened by numerous electronic devices. Computers, lamp dimmers, and other electrical appliances feed interference into the grid. This can significantly impair sound quality: transparency and dynamics suffer, fine details are lost, and the music sounds less vibrant – as if a gray veil were hanging over the playback.

Battery operation for maximum sound purity

The Accu Box S2 from Pro-Ject was developed to solve precisely this problem. It provides a particularly clean and stable power supply for two devices in the S2 series, operating at 5 V/DC and 18 V/DC respectively. This makes it ideal for numerous compact Pro-Ject components such as DACs, headphone amplifiers, preamplifiers, or streaming solutions.

What makes the Accu Box S2 special is its operation with integrated lithium-polymer batteries. In pure battery mode, the power supply is completely independent of the mains electricity supply. This eliminates interference and mains noise. The connected device receives a particularly clean and stable supply voltage, which can have a direct positive effect on sound quality.

Mains filter during the charging process

The Accu Box S2 can also be used while charging. In this mode, the batteries act as a buffer and simultaneously function as an effective mains filter. Even when the device is connected to the mains, interference is significantly reduced, ensuring a stable and clean power supply.

A microprocessor-controlled charging system monitors the entire charging process. Once the batteries are fully charged, the system automatically disconnects the power supply and charging electronics from the batteries. This prevents interference from the power grid from affecting the power supply. At the same time, the power supply remains constant and independent of fluctuations in the mains voltage.

Another advantage of this solution is that it also avoids so-called ground loops, which often lead to humming or interference in more complex hi-fi setups.

Comfort in daily operation

The Accu Box S2 also impresses in everyday use with its practical features. When the device is switched off, connected components are automatically switched off as well. The reverse is true when switching on: devices without their own standby switch, such as certain DACs or preamplifiers, are activated directly.

Visually, the Accu Box S2 fits perfectly into Pro-Ject's compact S2 series. The high-quality housing made of brushed aluminum is available in silver or black and underscores the elegant, minimalist look of the series.
