The AT-VM95ML/H combines the proven VM95 cartridge with a pre-mounted AT-HS6 headshell. This setup is aimed at listeners who expect clean, technically precise playback of their records and value easy integration. Microlinear stylus: Tracking precision right down to the inner groove
The heart of the system is the naked microlinear diamond stylus. Its shape is based on the cutting stylus and enables particularly precise tracking of the groove modulation. In practical use, this means:
- lower distortion, especially in the inner grooves
- clean high-frequency resolution without harshness
- Stable sampling even in complex passages
The microlinear geometry reduces wear on both the stylus and the record. With a typical lifespan of approximately 1,000 hours, it significantly exceeds conical or elliptical designs.
Sound characteristics: Neutral, resolving, controlled
With a frequency range of 20 to 25,000 Hz and a channel separation of 23 dB at 1 kHz, the AT-VM95ML delivers balanced, wideband reproduction. Its dual moving magnet design produces an output voltage of 3.5 mV, making it easily compatible with standard MM phono inputs.
The aluminum cantilever contributes to precise impulse response and ensures a controlled, low-distortion sound. Voices are clearly focused, while fine details in the treble range are differentiated and rendered.
VM95 system platform: Replaceable needles, long-term use
A key feature of the VM95 series is its modular design. All models are based on the same generator unit, making all styli in the series compatible with each other. This allows for:
- simple needle replacement in case of wear
- Targeted sound adjustment through different stylus profiles
- long-term use of the pickup without complete replacement
From conical to Shibata, the series covers different requirements without requiring a new system body.
Compatibility with AT-XP series
The VM95 and AT-XP series generators are compatible with each other, allowing the use of DJ-specific styli. However, note the higher recommended tracking force of approximately 3g for XP styli, while the AT-VM95ML operates optimally at around 2.0g.
However, the VM95 tuning remains clearly geared towards high-quality music playback, while XP needles are optimized for robust DJ applications.
Pre-assembled AT-HS6 headshell: Stability and easy assembly
The cartridge comes pre-mounted on the AT-HS6 headshell. The die-cast aluminum housing, weighing just 9g, provides a solid foundation for low-resonance operation.
Mounting on the tonearm is straightforward, as the VM95 housing features integrated M2.6 threads. Nuts are not required, which significantly simplifies installation and minimizes adjustment errors.
