The Classic Evo

Subchassis turntable with 9" carbon/aluminium sandwich tonearm

The Classic meets the 175 VPO to fuse design ideas

The new Classic Evo is based on the successful EISA Award winner The Classic and the experience we have gained through the design and manufacture of our Icon turntable, the 175 -Vienna Philharmonic Recordplayer. The biggest improvement is the Subteller, where we took our cue from the Vienna Philharmonic turntable to make key changes to the Classic Evo. An electronic speed switch is built in for improved comfort, so you can switch from 33 to 45 rpm at the push of a button. Compared to the old Classic, the Evo's is heavier and stiffer to eliminate resonances even better and to isolate the platter and tonearm from the rest of the case and motor. A solid aluminum turntable construction uses TPE to optimize the resonance behavior. The platter of The Classic Evo is precisely manufactured from a special aluminum alloy, which is also dampened with TPE. The construction of the main bearing is based on the principle of the Vienna Philharmonic turntable. The new aluminum subplatter, precision machined with diamond cutting tools as in the limited edition 175 VPO, allows for much improved tolerances. This sophisticated component guarantees excellent isolation between bearing rumble and the platter.

The tonearm tube is a sandwich construction made of carbon and aluminium: carbon offers stiffness and speed, aluminum enables high damping. The tonearm bearing is now the same high quality design as our Pro-Ject CC EVO tonearms. It guarantees unrestricted fluid vertical and horizontal movement, which ensures precise tracking over the entire span of a record. The counterweight is equipped with TPE damping that helps reduce the amplitude of arm/cartridge resonances by 50%. A typical feature of Pro-Ject is the possibility of adjusting the azimuth and VTA in order to enable optimal adjustment to a large number of pickups. Various counterweights for pickups up to 25 grams are optionally available.

We supply the Ortofon Quintet Red MC pickup system as standard. Since the tonearm has excellent damping properties and its effective mass can be classified as medium-heavy, it is considered a very good playing partner for MC systems.
