KEF LS50 Meta

Since the LS50 was launched in 2011, technologies have continued to evolve. Our engineers have continued to embrace KEF's driver philosophy, seeking new technological breakthroughs. The result is an icon that truly lives up to its commitment to innovation: the KEF LS50 Meta bookshelf speaker! Instantly recognizable as the successor to the LS50, the LS50 Meta stems from KEF's same desire for continuous development and is therefore fittingly the first speaker to utilize metamaterial absorption technology*.

*The metamaterial absorption technology is a joint development with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group.

Technology: Metamaterial absorption technology

A truly revolutionary tool in KEF's acoustic arsenal, MAT is a highly complex labyrinthine structure where each of the intricate channels efficiently absorbs a specific frequency. When combined, the channels act like an acoustic black hole, absorbing 99% of the unwanted frequencies emanating from the rear of the tweeter, eliminating the resulting distortion and delivering a purer, more natural acoustic performance.

12th Generation Uni-Q

The tweeter is the heart of our 12th-generation Uni-Q with MAT driver. The Uni-Q point-source arrangement delivers a more detailed, accurate, and integrated three-dimensional soundstage, distributed so evenly throughout the room that the 'sweet spot' can be found anywhere in the space. Using simulation and analysis tools and decades of accumulated knowledge, our engineers have developed a new variant of the signature KEF driver, featuring a new cone-neck decoupler and a new drive system precisely shaped to reduce distortion in the midrange's high-frequency range. The result is less coloration, less distortion, and a sound that is more transparent and true to life than previously possible. The same can be said for bass performance; the LS50 Meta exceeds expectations for a modestly proportioned bookshelf speaker in this regard as well, delivering room-filling sound with deep, articulate bass.

PortDesign

A large part of the compelling performance is due to the driver's clarity, but the port design is also crucial. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to calculate the flare and profile of the LS50 Meta's patented, asymmetrically positioned flexible port to avoid turbulence. Furthermore, the flexible port walls prevent resonances from coloring the midrange, resulting in improved clarity with exceptional depth and detail.

Housing construction

The LS50 Meta's extremely rigid cabinet is optimized for optimal performance and features smooth, curved surfaces that help ensure sound is projected smoothly across the baffle. Inside the cabinet, cross-bracing and CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) combine to dampen internal vibrations. The result of this meticulous attention to detail is that the LS50 Meta produces the lowest coloration of any loudspeaker in its class.

design

The LS50 Meta inherits its distinctive good looks from the original LS50. A low-diffraction, curved baffle is precisely sculpted around the Uni-Q driver; the curved front panel is subtly mirrored by the gently rounded rear panel, while both the port output and speaker terminals are elegantly recessed and visually relaxed.

Matching feet

The bottom of the LS50 Meta features threaded holes at each corner, allowing the speaker to snap into place on top of the new KEF S2 floor stand. Like its predecessor, the S1 floor stand, the S2 also features integrated cable management and a solid, resilient column. The LS50 Meta will be available in four colors at launch, all featuring a modern satin finish, while the S2 floor stands are color-coordinated to match the models.

Available in four finishes: Carbon Black, Mineral White, Titanium Grey and Royal Blue Special Edition

The LS50 Meta bookshelf speakers fulfill every criterion of the KEF promise. A true first in the loudspeaker industry, the LS50 Meta utilizes innovative, groundbreaking technology to deliver immersive, completely convincing sound from a compact, stylish speaker that opens up entirely new perspectives on enjoying your music .
