Introduction to Yamaha's True Sound Philosophy
The Yamaha YH-4000 was designed to provide discerning listeners with a natural, detailed, and spacious soundstage. As an open-back, high-end headphone, it combines modernized Orthodynamic™ driver technology with a meticulously crafted housing, premium materials, and manufacturing that takes place entirely in a Japanese factory dedicated to Yamaha's flagship models. The goal is to reproduce music with the greatest possible realism, making the presence of a live performance truly palpable.
With Yamaha True Sound, the YH-4000 takes an approach that considers both the artists' intentions and the acoustic nuances of the original recording. The headphones are designed to create a listening environment in which users can immerse themselves in music without distractions – and without time constraints.
Orthodynamic™ drivers – the heart of acoustic precision
Yamaha has been developing planar magnetic drivers since the 1970s. The YH-4000 continues this tradition, utilizing a completely redesigned generation of the Orthodynamic™ driver design. The ultra-lightweight, thin-film diaphragm features conductive coils on both sides and fine, wave-like structures that enable precise movement. This allows the driver to react exceptionally quickly and reproduce even the smallest dynamic changes.
The diaphragm is significantly lighter than conventional dynamic driver systems and offers exceptional impulse response. Micro-perforated dampers on both sides precisely control the diaphragm's movement, ensuring natural dynamics without distortion. The overall result is a sound image that reproduces both subtle details and powerful bass frequencies with pristine fidelity.
Open enclosure for spatial spaciousness and controlled acoustics
The YH-4000 features generously sized, open enclosures that provide the driver with a particularly large acoustic internal volume. This design supports airflow and minimizes unwanted resonances in the rear cavity.
A newly developed PET mesh filter ensures precise regulation of the internal pressure. This keeps the midrange clear, dense, and well-focused, while maintaining a powerful and precise bass response. At the same time, the filter contributes to an open soundstage. An integrated reflector structure further enhances acoustic accuracy by selectively directing rearward sound.
This combination creates a spatial sound that captures the atmosphere of large concert halls as well as the intimate closeness of small club performances.
Natural tonal balance across the entire spectrum
The Orthodynamic™ drivers and airy cabinet design ensure consistent reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum. Vocals and instruments are faithfully reproduced, including their individual timbres. The YH-4000 preserves the natural character of the recording, conveying both powerful bass frequencies and airy, delicate treble.
The ability to differentiate between silence, dynamic shifts, and subtle textures allows the headphones to realistically reproduce musical contrasts. The playback is designed to allow music to be experienced in its full expressiveness.
Designed for comfort during long listening sessions
Magnesium housing for low weight
The YH-4000's frame is made of magnesium, a material that combines high structural rigidity with effective vibration damping. Despite its robust properties, the headphones remain pleasantly lightweight at around 320 grams, making them suitable for extended listening sessions.
Two-layer headband and stepless slider
The headband features a stainless steel arm that ensures a stable construction while allowing controlled lateral pressure. The direct contact area on the head consists of a three-dimensional fabric that adapts flexibly and distributes pressure evenly. The stepless slider allows for precise adjustment to different head sizes.
Tilting mechanism for secure seating
To prevent air leaks, the YH-4000 is equipped with a tilted pivoting axis. This mechanism allows for subtle vertical movement of the ear housing, ensuring the headphones sit securely behind the ear. This promotes a stable fit and supports controlled bass reproduction.
Premium ear cushions for deep immersion
The hybrid ear pads developed for this model combine synthetic suede on the inner surface with flexible PU leather on the outer edge. The combination of these two materials ensures a pleasant feel, an airy soundstage, and precise acoustic control. Fine perforations across the entire pad enhance spatial sound and promote a comfortable, enveloping fit.
Design-oriented construction with functional beauty
The YH-4000's design is based on functional aesthetics. A striking opening in the housing is protected by a triaxial fabric – a material also used in aerospace. Every component is chosen to serve a clear purpose, both acoustically and visually.
The headphones are designed to provide long-lasting enjoyment and reflect the standards of a high-quality instrument. The absence of superfluous design features focuses entirely on function, materials, and sound.
Handmade in a Japanese factory
The YH-4000 is manufactured at Yamaha's factory in Kakegawa, where top-of-the-line grand pianos and select high-end audio components are also produced. The manufacturing process involves precise steps from driver assembly to final installation. Experienced craftspeople ensure that each model meets the highest standards of workmanship and acoustic performance.
Accessories for high-quality use
Included in the package are silver-plated OFC cables, specially designed ear pads, and a protective carrying case. The accessories are selected to enhance comfort, durability, and acoustic performance, perfectly complementing the headphones for everyday use.
