Pure Audio CD
The CD-2 is designed for audio applications only. Because of this, using an audio-only drive is both easier and better. All multi-format drives are tailored to video design. The audio output of these drives is then re-sampled (uncontrolled) for audio output. Many manufacturers try to optimize this sampling of the drive themselves. But no matter what you try: The basic potential is difficult to control and the motor control card also creates a disturbing source of noise.
The philosophy of Lyngdorf Audio is to transmit an audio signal as cleanly as possible and to complete it with an optimized precision clock system. Working on earlier CD players and fully digital amplifiers, Lyngdorf Audio knows exactly how to build clock systems and how not. The CD-2 has the clock system of the Millennium Mk IV, the key to low phase noise in the frequency response.
