218 power amplifiers

The 218 power amplifier is visually and sonically modeled after Burmester's flagship 159 amplifier. This Reference Line power amplifier benefits from Burmester's extensive experience and insights gained from four decades of successful amplifier development. Power and elegance are perfectly combined behind the characteristic heat sinks. This monumental yet stylish power amp effortlessly drives even demanding loudspeakers, demonstrating its exceptional class at every turn. Its virtually inexhaustible power reserves result in impressive authority in music reproduction, complemented by outstanding spatial resolution and musical warmth.

Highlights

To meet the sonic demands of a Burmester power amplifier, proven circuit designs and new components were meticulously coordinated over months of painstaking work. Completely new protection circuits now ensure high operational reliability without affecting the signal paths. The signal routing was further optimized and measured in countless test series.

The thermal management system is optimally adapted to the internal structure and the housing design, ensuring homogeneous heat distribution even under high power demands. This not only has a positive effect on the lifespan of the components but also guarantees absolute control in music reproduction thanks to its stable temperature level. The oversized power supply components ensure a stable and reliable energy supply at all times, even with demanding loudspeakers. In addition to all these sonic advantages, it is now also possible to integrate the power amplifier into a home automation system to further enhance ease of use.

The power supply was completely redesigned. Particular emphasis was placed on a low-interference grounding concept, which, further enhanced by the new signal and cable routing, sets new sonic standards.

The power amplifier stages are largely based on proven technology from renowned predecessor models and have been carefully optimized without losing sight of the sonic advantages for which Burmester power amplifiers have stood for decades. State-of-the-art microcontroller technology ensures stable monitoring of the amplifier's status at all times and allows for integration with...

Home automation systems with the BurLink interface. The decoupling capacitors on the power amplifier have also been optimized, resulting in improved and therefore even more dynamic impulse response. We continue to rely on familiar Burmester DNA values, such as DC coupling without coupling capacitors in the signal path to achieve maximum precision in bass reproduction, as well as symmetrical signal routing for the best possible listening experience.

design

The design of the 218 power amplifier closely follows the look of the largest and most powerful mono power amp in the company's history. The 159 inherits its clean lines and cohesive, harmonious appearance from the more compact model. The screwless construction of the top cover and the absence of additional decorative elements particularly emphasize this visual effect. Despite the technically necessary increase in internal dimensions, this reduction to the essentials has meant that the overall height only needs to be adjusted by a few millimeters compared to existing and older predecessor models. The internal extension is clearly visible in the lengthened classic Burmester heat sinks, but this is largely compensated for by the minimalist design of the top and bottom plates, allowing existing racks to be used if required. As a tribute to the classics in the Burmester amplifier portfolio, the familiar decorative lines, which echo the shape of the heat sinks, are found on the top cover of the 218 power amplifier. The rear panel is milled from a solid block of material and is positioned at a 45-degree angle to the heat sinks. The solid base plate seals the bottom of the housing.

HANDMADE

In the development and manufacturing process, only the best components are selected, meeting Burmester's tightly defined tolerances. This is followed by several days of testing and further intensive quality controls, culminating in a comprehensive final listening test under real-world conditions. Every single assembly undergoes 100% inspection according to Burmester quality standards before installation. This elaborate manufacturing process ensures that the customer ultimately receives a product that is exceptional in every respect.
