description

The new built-in stereo speaker PHANTOM E-60 S continues the tradition of the successful ceiling speaker DALI PHANTOM E-60, but has two tweeters, each with 20 mm fabric membranes.

With a distance of 144 mm between the two tweeters, this speaker achieves an above-average stereo perspective. To ensure optimal playback quality, the E-60S is designed as a dual mono construction with separate inputs and crossover boards for each channel. Both channels can be tuned independently to the acoustics of your listening room via two switches.

The PHANTOM E-60 S is intended for stereo playback in small to medium-sized rooms, but is also perfect for use as a height speaker in a multi-channel home theater system. The speaker can be mounted in the ceiling or integrated into a wall.

The slightly inclined built-in mid-bass driver and the two decentrally fixed dome tweeters deliver a detailed, powerful and balanced sound. Instead of a wood fiber cone typical of DALI, a polypropylene cone is used here, which is more moisture-resistant and also allows the PHANTOM E-60 S to be operated in covered outdoor areas and bathrooms.

back box
If required, the PHANTOM E-60 S can also be combined with the optional DALI backbox, which protects the speaker from moisture, dust and dirt. In addition, the backbox ensures consistent sound quality, even if the acoustic conditions in the installation openings behind the walls or ceilings are uneven. At the same time it is ensured that no sound components are lost in the cavities. The DALI backbox is not included with the PHANTOM E-60 S, but can be purchased as an optional accessory.

Construction & assembly

DALI's PHANTOM E-60 S not only combines compact dimensions with top acoustic performance, it also transfers the advantages of a traditional housing loudspeaker to wall and ceiling installations. The drivers of the two-way system are fixed in a stable baffle made of solid MDF to save space. As a result, the chassis find solid working conditions free from disturbing vibrations. In addition, the robust construction ensures optimal integration into the wall or ceiling.

The PHANTOM E-60 S can be mounted in just a few simple steps: The completely redesigned baffle becomes thicker towards the outer edges, which means that it sits tighter and more securely in the mounting surface. This construction also contributes to better stability of the entire speaker. The PHANTOM E-60 S is fixed by pivoting brackets, which can be locked from the baffle with a screwdriver and used with a mounting surface up to 70 mm thick.

The covers of the PHANTOM E series were designed in such a way that they fit particularly flat and the loudspeakers integrate harmoniously into the environment. They are fixed by two invisible magnets. The scope of delivery includes two round front covers, square ones are available as accessories for an extra charge.

crossover

The signal paths of the PHANTOM E-60 S are designed in a dual-mono construction with separate inputs and crossover boards for each channel. The signals from the input to the driver are routed completely separately via separate crossovers for the left and right channels as well as channel-specific setting options.

Each crossover component has been carefully selected for its audiophile quality, and the crossover of the was specifically designed for the PHANTOM E-60 S.

The PHANTOM E-60 S features PTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient Device) overload protection. This protects the drivers from overheating if they are played at a very high volume over a longer period of time. Built-in loudspeakers sometimes not only have to provide sound for the room in which they are installed, but are sometimes also used to reach listeners in the next room. If the volume is then accidentally set to extremely high levels, the speakers may be permanently damaged. The PTC system prevents this as it acts like a fuse when the current gets too high.

All internal wiring is optimized for the loudspeaker design and is placed and secured in such a way that rattling is impossible. In the interest of the shortest possible signal path, the spring terminals are placed directly on the crossover and ensure an optimal, long-lasting connection with the loudspeaker cable.

tweeter

The two ultra-light, 20 mm large dome tweeters are each controlled via separate crossovers and have channel-specific adjustment options. With their comparatively large distance of 144 millimeters, a wide-angle stereo panorama is guaranteed in any environment.

The compass rose on the outer edge helps to align the speaker optimally.

woofer

The most versatile possible uses were an important goal when developing the PHANTOM E-60 S. The loudspeaker should also be able to be used where the use of traditional DALI housing loudspeakers is not possible or not recommended - for example in basement rooms, bathrooms or in protected areas outdoor area. The cones are made of polypropylene to ensure both optimal durability and excellent sound quality.

The mid-bass driver is built in at a slight angle, which allows the system to be angled in one direction and thus targeted sound reinforcement. Cone, bead and magnetic drive are designed in accordance with the DALI philosophy to keep losses as low as possible. As a result, the PHANTOM E-60 S unfolds its full sound quality even with comparatively small amplifiers.
