When building a high-quality turntable, vibration control plays a crucial role. The Pro-Ject RPM 9 Carbon was therefore developed with numerous design features that minimize mechanical disturbances and enable exceptionally precise tracking.

The chassis is made of compressed wood fibers and features a carbon fiber coating for added rigidity. Inside, a metal granulate filling effectively absorbs unwanted resonances. The platter bearing shaft is also mounted on a solid metal block, providing additional stability.

The heavy turntable platter is dampened by a ring made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). This material reduces resonances and contributes to smooth, stable rotation.

Magnetic decoupling from the substrate

A special feature of the RPM 9 Carbon is its magnetically decoupled feet. Two magnets of the same polarity in the feet ensure that the turntable is almost floating. The integrated pins serve only for precise centering.

This design effectively decouples the player from the ground and makes them significantly less susceptible to external disturbances.

Precision platter bearing and optimized turntable

The inverted platter bearing uses ceramic raceways and guarantees excellent rumble characteristics. The design consists of a stationary stainless steel spindle with a ceramic ball, on which a bushing with a ceramic bearing surface rotates.

The resonance-optimized turntable platter is constructed as a sandwich design. A polished aluminum platter with TPE damping is complemented by a precision-ground vinyl surface. An additional record puck improves contact between the record and the platter, promoting smooth playback.

High-quality tonearm made of carbon fiber

The medium-mass tonearm is ideally suited for both MM and MC cartridges. The conical tonearm tube and headshell are made from a single piece of carbon fiber. This construction ensures high rigidity and very low resonance susceptibility.

High-quality ABEC-7 ball bearings enable virtually frictionless movement of the tonearm. This allows the stylus to follow the record groove with exceptional precision and reliably capture even the finest details.

Extensive setting options

The tonearm offers several adjustment options for precise adaptation to different cartridges. The tonearm tube can be rotated after loosening a screw, allowing for precise azimuth adjustment.

Additionally, the vertical tracking angle (VTA) can be adjusted at the tonearm base. Various counterweights allow for adaptation to a wide range of cartridge weights.

The Pro-Ject RPM 9 Carbon is also optionally available as a set with the Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 Low Output MC cartridge, thus offering a particularly attractive entry into high-quality MC pickup systems.
