With The Classic Reference, Pro-Ject Audio Systems ushers a design icon into a new generation of audiophile perfection. This turntable combines classic design language with state-of-the-art drive technology, sophisticated resonance control, and luxurious craftsmanship – inspired by legendary special editions and developed for discerning music lovers.

Exclusively with VPO Anniversary cartridge

The Classic Reference is available with a hand-selected VPO Anniversary cartridge. This special system was sonically fine-tuned in collaboration with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and manufactured by Ortofon in Europe to precise specifications.

The cartridge body is made of a highly damping special alloy and is meticulously polished to perfectly match the surface of the turntable. Sonically, the system impresses with exceptional detail resolution, natural timbres, and remarkably stable soundstage imaging.

Historical inspiration – modern perfection

Pro-Ject became known worldwide for its purist, audiophile turntables without superfluous ornamentation – uncompromisingly designed, technically sophisticated, and sonically outstanding. With increasing demand for more luxurious models, exclusive series such as the Signature Line were developed over the years.

A milestone was the development of the strictly limited special edition model for the 175th anniversary of the Vienna Philharmonic – crafted using original woods and metals from historical instruments. This edition is now a highly sought-after collector's item.

The Classic Reference embraces this design DNA. It is structurally based on The Classic EVO and integrates technical experience from the development of the legendary 175 VPO model – but in a permanently available, timelessly elegant design.

EVO 9 AS HG tonearm – Precision at reference level

The heart of the turntable is the high-quality 9-inch EVO 9 AS HG tonearm in a classic S-shape. It uses an inverted gimbal bearing of Swiss ABEC-7 quality with four stainless steel tips. The bearing sits in a solid aluminum block and ensures maximum stability with extremely low friction.

The open outer ring effectively reduces resonances. The specially developed aluminum tonearm tube with high internal damping ensures controlled vibration behavior, while the SME-compatible headshell allows for quick and convenient cartridge changes.

The internal wiring is made of flexible, high-purity copper – ideally suited for the extremely weak phono signal. Gold-plated connection clips ensure consistently stable contact. Azimuth and VTA are fully adjustable, allowing for precise fine-tuning.

Resonance control at the highest level

The chassis follows a sophisticated aluminum/MDF sandwich design. It is complemented by an elaborately constructed sub-chassis with TPE elements for targeted vibration absorption.

The precision-balanced aluminum main platter is also TPE-damped. While many classic cast platters impressed with their high mass, they suffered from annoying ringing effects; this design effectively eliminates unwanted resonances and ensures an unadulterated, color-neutral reproduction.

The main bearing design is based on the technology of the legendary Vienna Philharmonic record player and ensures maximum smoothness of operation as well as excellent speed stability.

The counterweight is also TPE-damped to minimize additional micro-vibrations. Height-adjustable, decoupling feet ensure a secure stand on a variety of surfaces.

Electronic precision and stable power supply

The electronic speed control allows for convenient switching between 33, 45, and 78 rpm. Inside, a precise, DC-powered AC generator produces a completely new, clean sine wave and drives the engine with the utmost precision.

The external switching power supply appears deliberately inconspicuous – the crucial factor is the internally generated, particularly clean power supply, which significantly contributes to improved speed stability.

Symmetrical signal transmission – studio quality for your home

In addition to standard RCA outputs, The Classic Reference offers balanced XLR connections. Balanced connections are common in professional studios and live sound applications because they effectively suppress interference and noise.

Especially in the connection between turntable and phono preamplifier – where extremely small signal voltages are transmitted – this technology ensures maximum interference immunity and particularly clean signal transmission.

The included Connect it Phono E RCA cable is specially optimized for phono applications and uses high-quality copper conductors for low-loss signal transmission.
