A (Multiroom) Dream in White

by Olaf Adam
When a completely new building is being constructed, integrating a multiroom system is by far the easiest. Every detail, from the position of the control units to the necessary space in the technical room and the cable routing, can be planned precisely and optimally from the very beginning. This also makes it perfectly possible to integrate a complete home cinema system with full-sized floorstanding speakers into the living room in a way that doesn't disrupt the room's design, but actually complements it. Just like in this example.
Multiroom in Top Sound Quality
The requirements for this project were clearly defined in advance. One main room, six secondary rooms, and a listening zone on the terrace were all to be provided with music in the highest possible quality. A variety of sources should be available, and of course, the whole system had to remain easy to use.

Home Cinema in the Living Room – No Problem!
In the open-plan living room, the owner wanted a real home cinema feeling with as little visible technology as possible. The original idea to use a motorized projection screen and a hidden projector was dropped after the client was able to take a look at the E75HU759 LED/LCD TV from Samsung at AUDITORIUM. With a 75-inch (190 cm) screen diagonal, this TV truly meets cinematic demands, and the unrestricted daylight suitability in the very bright living room also spoke in favor of this solution. Even though the Samsung offers enough brightness to provide a good picture even in full sunlight, the option to darken the room – especially during the summer months when it stays light for longer – is still very important for optimal picture quality. For this reason, the home cinema electronics were connected to the rest of the house technology via KNX, making it possible to create combined room scenes. For example, a single button press is now enough to turn on the home cinema and, depending on the time of day, either dim the lights or activate the shading.

Speakers: Revox Re:sound G elegance
When it came to the speakers in the living area, the only real choice was the Re:sound G elegance series from Revox. These slim floorstanding speakers, including a center speaker and subwoofer, offer both powerful and detailed sound and seamlessly fit into the stylish surroundings with their elegant white surfaces. Matching this, a closed glass rack from Spectral houses all the electronics, which remain invisible yet fully operable behind an infrared-permeable fabric cover.

InWall and Outdoor Speakers from Bowers & Wilkins
No visible technology was wanted in the secondary rooms. To still ensure the best possible sound quality in the kitchen, bathroom, guest WC, bedroom, and hallway, high-quality ceiling speakers from Bowers & Wilkins are used here. The client and AUDITORIUM also rely on the experience of the British hi-fi specialists on the terrace, which is supplied with sound from the AM-1 outdoor speakers from the same company.

Flexible Operation
When it comes to operation, the installed system allows the greatest possible flexibility. All areas of the house can be fully controlled via a central Gira touch panel. Gira/Revox keypads allow for quick and easy operation in individual rooms. Apps on the owners' various mobile devices are also available for control, and finally, the home cinema electronics can be operated in the traditional way using a programmed universal remote. The system is smart enough to avoid conflicts between the different control methods, so residents can operate the home technology in the way that's most convenient, whenever they like.
