Dolby Atmos now on demonstration in Hamm

With the new Dolby Atmos sound format, home theater audio becomes completely three-dimensional. Of course, we had to try it out, and since yesterday our Atmos demo has been running in Hamm. Our Dolby Atmos installation at AUDITORIUM Hamm. We chose the excellent AM-1 from Bowers & Wilkins. Although they are actually intended for outdoor use, their easy installation makes them perfect for use as ceiling speakers. We already published a general introduction to Dolby Atmos some time ago, but now you can finally try it out. Here is a brief first-hand experience report from our Robin, who had the honor of setting it up: After installing the speakers (editor’s note: from B&W), I started up the Marantz SR 7009 with Dolby Atmos. The installation was straightforward. The speakers on the ceiling are called Height 1 (top front) and Height 2 (top rear). The Marantz offers settings for various mounting situations for the speakers. Front Height (front presence speakers) and Height 2 share a slot on the connection panel. It doesn’t seem possible to use presence speakers together with four ceiling speakers—you have to choose. First plus point: the setup menu from Marantz, as usual. For the customer, it really couldn’t be easier in the end. Once setup is complete, you can select different modes as usual. To control the ceiling and/or presence speakers, you need to hold down the Movie or Music button and select the "DTS-HD + Dolby Surround" mode. In this example, the HD master audio signal is played through the five to seven "normal" speakers; the remaining speakers are added in. In "Direct" mode, of course, only the signal actually present on the DVD/Blu-ray is played, and the ceiling remains silent. The fact that the ceiling speakers are active is indicated by a small H in the display.
