Giant TV: Samsung THE WALL

The annual size competition among TV manufacturers may have reached its ultimate conclusion at this year's CES in January. After all, the THE WALL presented by Samsung already impresses with a screen diagonal of 146 inches (3.70 m), which is difficult to surpass with existing technologies. In addition, this giant display is made up of individual, smaller tiles, so at least in theory, it shouldn’t be a problem to create other screen sizes with this modular principle.

But the more crucial question is what resolution the display ultimately has. In the presented 146-inch version, Samsung is already working with the 8K standard, meaning 7,680 x 4,320 pixels. Each individual pixel is represented by its own micro-LED, making pixel-precise brightness and color control possible. For this, and for upscaling all lower resolutions, Samsung uses its own algorithm, which even draws on methods of artificial intelligence to process the massive volume of data quickly enough.
Otherwise, THE WALL is meant to prove itself as a pretty smart TV. Even for the initial setup, it is supposed to connect to the smartphone to simplify the process of configuring internet access, for example. As part of Samsung’s own Smart Things Cloud, THE WALL will be able to communicate with connected home technology, and for convenient operation, Samsung’s voice control Bixby is available.
So far, neither the price nor the launch date has been announced, but Samsung has made it clear that THE WALL is not just a concept, but a real product that will actually be available to buy in the not-too-distant future. We’ll keep you updated!
