Rediscovered Musical Treasures - Devialet THE LOST RECORDINGS

If you take a look at the products from the Expert or Phantom series by Devialet, you'll find the most advanced digital technology and truly visionary design. So you certainly can't accuse the French of living in the past. But for all their love of technology, the team at Devialet is, above all, made up of genuine music fans.

That’s why, years ago, they teamed up with the record label Fondamenta to search for recordings by legendary artists that were thought to be lost and had never been released. It took more than a year before the first lost tape was found somewhere in an archive, but the music archaeologists persevered. The (current) reward for this effort is seven unique recordings, meticulously restored and now released for the first time as strictly limited LPs.

Each album exists only 900 times, giving it rarity value on its own. But Devialet takes it a step further and offers especially passionate music fans very special versions of the seven albums – the Lacquer Edition. These are 30 so-called lacquer matrices each – a kind of intermediate step in record production – which can be played like conventional records and offer absolutely brilliant sound quality that even audiophile vinyl can hardly match. In addition to the extremely high price (details upon request), the lacquers have another significant drawback: they are so delicate that after just one play, their sonic magic is lost, and by the third play at the latest, they are considered destroyed. So these are truly collector’s items, much like a very expensive wine.

By the way, Devialet doesn’t intend to stop with the first edition of seven Lost Recordings. The search continues, and work on restoring more recordings is already underway. Which ones those are remains a secret for now – but there’s plenty to look forward to!
