Unboxing - The new AUDIO PHYSIC CLASSIC 25

With the Classic series, the German manufacturer Audio Physic has proven for years that elegant design and innovative loudspeaker technology can also be successfully combined in the mid-price segment. The latest example of this is the new Classic 25. As one of the first retailers worldwide, we received our first pair today and of course unpacked them right away:
The Classic 25 is the variant with a high-quality glass surface, while the housing of the sister model Classic 22 is finished with real wood veneers.
For both aesthetic and practical reasons, the high-gloss glass surfaces are a great choice. Even after years of use and care, they look as good as new, without losing any of their shine or their incomparable sense of depth. Such an impressive and long-lasting surface quality simply cannot be achieved with conventional paintwork.

Sandwich housing with elaborate adhesive technology
However, what is even more important for Audio Physic is the technical significance of the cabinet construction. The housing of the Classic 25 consists of a sandwich of different materials: the inner body is made of MDF, and the glass is applied from the outside in the form of panels, using approximately 2 millimeter thick acrylic strips. This permanently elastic connection allows the completely different resonance characteristics of MDF and glass to play off against each other. The result is a highly damped enclosure that virtually develops no inherent sound of its own. You don't hear a speaker, just the pure music. The defined distance between the inner body and the glass panels also creates a double glazing effect: sound radiated backwards into the housing barely makes it to the outside. This makes it easier for the tweeter and midrange drivers to do their work undisturbed.

Just like its predecessor, the Classic 20, the Classic 25 features another special characteristic that is invisible from the outside: inside the speaker, a hidden woofer is at work. This operates in its own, carefully designed compartment and uses a bass reflex port that is also invisibly hidden at the bottom of the housing. A high-strength ceramic foam element in front of this opening diffuses the escaping air and thus prevents the annoying airflow noises that conventional bass reflex systems often produce. Compared to its predecessor, the hidden subwoofer has grown considerably and now measures a full 20 centimeters in diameter. Together with the adapted crossover tuning, this guarantees even more authority in the bass range.
The rest of the driver configuration in the Classic 25 also meets the technological standards of our Classic line: the midrange driver features our unique double-basket construction and a perfectly tuned diaphragm made of fiberglass fabric; a fixed phase plug improves the ventilation of the drive system. This meticulous design especially benefits the all-important midrange, where our hearing is particularly sensitive and immediately notices any coloration. The Classic 25 reproduces timbres and voices as naturally and authentically as previously only possible in higher price categories.

Constantly improving on what is already good has been Audio Physic's secret of success for over 30 years. This is once again evident in the new Classic 25, which utilizes numerous solutions, materials, and technologies from the reference line of the Brilon-based company. As a result, the new Classic 25 has become an extremely mature loudspeaker that comes astonishingly close to the acoustic capabilities of Audio Physic’s more expensive models. In its own price range, it certainly has nothing to fear from the competition.
