Video: Introduction Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless

The headphone specialists at Sennheiser took their time, but their first wireless in-ears are excellent right from the start. The MOMENTUM True Wireless follow the current trend and connect via Bluetooth both to your smartphone and to each other. The wireless connection to the phone not only transmits the music signal, but also enables control of various functions via a mobile app (more on that below). You can read our first impressions of these sophisticated earbuds here or watch them in the video further down.
Wireless in Sennheiser Quality
Of course, Sennheiser has a reputation to uphold, and they don’t risk that lightly. The feeling of holding real quality in your hands starts even as you unpack them. The fabric-covered carrying case for the MOMENTUM True Wireless is truly eye-catching and makes a very solid impression. And, as becomes clear on closer inspection, it’s also one of the technical highlights of these in-ears.

This stylish little box is not just for transporting the earbuds—it’s also a charging station and backup battery. The in-ears rest in molded recesses, and hidden magnets keep them securely in place. Any charger can be connected to the back of the box via a USB-C cable, and it will first charge the headphones inside. Once they are fully charged, you get up to four hours of uninterrupted music enjoyment. If you keep the carrying case plugged in (whether the earbuds are inside or not), the integrated battery is recharged, giving you double the capacity. This means you can recharge the in-ears while on the go and independent of a power outlet. The total capacity allows for up to 12 hours of playback time.

Unless you’re on long train journeys or in similar situations, it’s quite rare to listen to music continuously for four hours straight. If you put the earbuds back in the carrying case during breaks, they are automatically recharged, so in everyday use, the full battery capacity of 12 hours can actually be put to good use.
An important factor when choosing in-ear headphones is the fit. To ensure they are suitable for different ears, Sennheiser includes silicone ear tips for the MOMENTUM True Wireless in a total of four different sizes. At least in our tests, this meant they always sat securely in the ear and were comfortable even for extended periods.

Brilliantly Simple Operation
The machined metal surfaces with the etched Sennheiser logo on the sides of the MOMENTUM True Wireless look stylish, but above all, they make for intuitive operation. From the initial Bluetooth pairing, to volume control, and basic functions like play/pause or previous/next track, you can also activate or deactivate another feature of the in-ears. It’s called Transparent Hearing and, when activated, allows a defined amount of ambient noise to come through. With a single touch of the right earbud, you can also launch the voice assistant of your connected mobile device (Google Assistant, Apple Siri, ...), which can be used via the built-in microphones. Naturally, it also works as a hands-free device for phone calls, and the MOMENTUM True Wireless can be set up so that simply inserting the right earbud is enough to answer a call.

All settings are managed via the SMART Control app, available for Android and iOS devices. The app also features a well-designed graphical equalizer, and provides instructions on using the individual functions, including gesture controls. There isn’t a music player built into the app, so users have complete freedom to use their preferred streaming services or music apps.

And How Do They Sound?

The Sennheiser name stands for technical perfection and, above all, outstanding sound—and the MOMENTUM True Wireless don’t disappoint in this respect either. They sound pleasantly neutral, with powerful bass and balanced highs coming from these smart earbuds. Combined with the very comfortable fit (at least for the ears available for our test), you quickly forget you’re wearing in-ear headphones at all and become fully immersed in the music.
So the wait was worth it: Sennheiser’s first wireless in-ears can confidently be called a major success—high-quality construction, thoughtfully chosen and smoothly functioning features, great wearing comfort, and excellent sound that lives up to the brand’s reputation.
