Evo for Evolution... Since the launch of the Utopia III in 2008, Focal's technology has continued to evolve. The Utopia III Evo series therefore incorporates our latest innovations.
The sound architecture of the Utopia III has been retained. To reduce distortion in the midrange, the two loudspeakers have been equipped with Focal's latest innovations: the NIC motor (Neutral Inductance Circuit) and the TMD surround.
Like the Grande Utopia EM and the Stella, the Scala Utopia Evo has been further developed for bi-amping. Experienced music lovers can refine the sound depending on their desired tonality and power output. The EVO series also incorporates the best components of its generation: French-made cables, denser sound-dampening material inside the bass enclosure, dual terminals, and separate crossovers. New finishes add the finishing touch to the design, creating a timeless silhouette.
The Utopia III Evo remains an icon. It combines a whole range of innovations and essential details that make it unique. Always far ahead of the rest.
Revised midrange driver
TMD surround: Thanks to this technology, the frequency response is linear between 1 and 4 kHz, and distortion in this range is reduced to a minimum. This results in a remarkably neutral midrange. NIC magnet system: Stabilizing the magnetic field prevents distortion and intermodulation. Research by Focal engineers has led to the development of an incredibly stable magnet system.
Bi-amping
The Scala Utopia Evo now allows the bass, midrange, and treble to be controlled separately, just like the two top speakers in the series.
Therefore, all speakers in the series are bi-amping capable. Experienced music lovers can refine the sound by individually selecting the amplifiers for the frequency ranges, depending on their desired sound profile.
Components that have been tested under real-world conditions
The latest components were individually selected from leading current brands. We would also like to point out that the cables inside the speaker are made in France. The conductor cross-section of the cables has been increased by 20%. The results are immediately perceptible to the ear: even greater sonic transparency and naturalness. Finally, a denser acoustic damping material was used for the bass enclosure to achieve even more stable, better controlled, and more precise bass.
Metallic colors
The design of the Utopia III Evo highlights its uniqueness:
It stands out due to its colors, which are inspired by the automotive industry. In addition to the timeless Black Lacquer and Carrara White, the Scala Evo is also available in Metallic Blue,
Available in Ash Grey and British Racing Green. These colors give the speaker a contemporary design while maintaining the same striking silhouette as before.
The speaker cabinet is painted entirely in the same color: the front and side panels will now be uniform. Black makes a comeback in the trim: the speaker baskets and tweeter housing are finished in Graphite Black. This choice of finish creates a unified, more harmonious, and less conspicuous look, thus emphasizing the originality of the new colors.
