Burmester 948 Power Conditioner – High-quality power supply for your high-end system
The Burmester 948 power conditioner was developed for the demanding power supply needs of high-quality hi-fi and high-end systems. It combines active DC compensation, high-quality high-frequency filters, and eight star-wired mains connections in one elegant device. This allows the 948 to create optimal conditions for a stable and interference-free power supply and makes it suitable even for powerful amplifiers and extensive high-end systems.
A particular strength of the Burmester 948 is its patented active DC compensation. DC components in the AC mains can cause unwanted hum from the power transformers of audio equipment. At the same time, fluctuating mains conditions can affect the sonic performance of a hi-fi system. The 948 actively counteracts these DC components, operating in parallel with the mains power supply. This means that the power draw of connected devices is not limited by a conventional passive filter.
Thanks to this design, the power conditioner is also suitable for use with high-performance power amplifiers and large amplifiers. Even devices with high current requirements can be integrated into a high-quality power supply system without unnecessarily restricting the dynamics through current-limiting passive filtering. For power amplifiers requiring more than 10 A, the connection is made in parallel to the power conditioner directly at the wall socket. The 948's active DC compensation remains effective in this case as well.
In addition to DC compensation, the Burmester 948 features two high-quality high-frequency mains filters. These can be flexibly distributed across the eight mains connection sockets. This allows, for example, targeted separation between digital and analog components. Interfering high-frequency components from the mains are reduced, and the connected audio devices receive the cleanest possible power supply.
For a clear and centralized power supply, the 948 features a total of eight high-quality power sockets. These are connected in a star configuration, allowing the connected components to access a common and well-designed power supply structure. This eliminates the need for an additional external power strip.
Ease of use was also a key consideration. Selected power outlets can be remotely switched via relays. In conjunction with a suitable preamplifier, this allows for convenient switching of the connected hi-fi system on and off. Depending on the configuration, remote switching can be applied to the entire system or to selected power outlets.
The integrated display provides additional information about the current power supply. Depending on the setting, the mains voltage or the DC component can be displayed. The display can be switched off completely if needed.
With its combination of active DC compensation, effective high-frequency filtering, and eight central mains connections, the Burmester 948 Power Conditioner offers a comprehensive solution for powering demanding audio systems. In particular, the patented DC compensation, operating in parallel with the mains, allows the use of high-performance components without restricting the power supply through passive filtering.
The Burmester 948 is therefore a high-quality addition to high-end hi-fi systems, where a stable, interference-free and powerful power supply forms an important basis for the entire system.
