The sound of wood

For the first time, three different types of wood are working together in one Grado headphone. The case consists of a maple sleeve, a hemp core and an outer ring made of cocobolo. Grado builds with wood because of its warm and comprehensive tonal properties, but finding the right balance between three different woods is not an easy task. The reward is an RS1x that opens up a new level of sound for Grado.

Characteristic sound

Grado got everything out of the new 50mm X-driver and brought the characteristic sound to new heights in combination with maple, hemp and cocobolo. Maple does most of the work, hemp smooths out the upper and lower frequencies, while cocobolo provides the extra punch. Together, in conjunction with our special processes, the woods create a full, dynamic and truly defined sound.

X series drivers

The RS1x is the first headphone to be built with the larger 50mm X drivers. This new loudspeaker concept, which is specially tailored to the RS1x made of three woods, has a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with a lower effective mass and a newly configured membrane. The redesign of these components for our 50mm drivers improves efficiency, reduces distortion and preserves the harmonic integrity of your music.
A little extra.

New cables and headband

Along with the speakers, the cables and headband for the RS1x have also been redesigned. The 8-core cable made of super-annealed copper is now even more resilient and reproduces even more of your music, with even greater purity. The new black leather headband has a white stitched accent.

Handcrafted in Brooklyn

The first wooden headphones were built by John Grado in the middle of the night in 1994. Since then, wood has been an integral part of our workbench. Each RS1x headphone is handcrafted by the Grado team in Brooklyn - these headphones wander from workbench to workbench until they're ready for your ears. Grado started building on a kitchen table in 1953, and every experience since then has led to the RS1x.
