Blue VU meters, 8-band tone control and inputs and outputs as far as the eye can see. The new C53 AC is undoubtedly the epitome of a McIntosh preamp and certainly the best transistor preamplifier McIntosh has ever built.
The C53AC preamplifier is ready for decades to come to satisfy even the most demanding audiophile needs, because it was the first McIntosh model to receive the brand new, highly audiophile digital module DA2. This can be replaced by future DA modules and thus keeps the C53 AC always up to date with the latest technology.
The DA2 module converts high-res digital files up to DSD512 or DXD 384kHz and is supported by a highly audiophile quad-balanced 8-channel 32-bit digital-to-analog converter.
Another new feature on the device is an 'audio-only HDMI channel input (ARC)', which can be used to connect televisions or AV receivers with HDMI (ARC) output. Multi-channel formats are converted to stereo sound via this!
The C53 AC offers nine analog and seven digital inputs for connecting all kinds of music sources. It is an audiophile preamplifier complete package and features proven McIntosh technologies such as 8-band tone controls, home theater PassThru and a high-drive headphone amplifier with Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) and Power Control.
As a special constructive effort, the digital circuit technology and the power supply are arranged below the steel chassis assembly level in the C53 AC, but the complete analog circuit above it. This single-beam separation raises the performance of the C53 AC to the performance of a two-chassis preamplifier design!
Its tone control consists of eight bands with control frequencies at 25 Hz, 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 200 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz, 2.5 kHz and 10 kHz. The equalizer works with +/- 12 dB completely in the analog range, which means a minimum of interference and distortion. In the basic state, the individual controllers are in the zero position and have no influence on the output signal in this position
The new C53 AC transistor preamplifier, with its two large, blue glowing VU meters, the black glass front panel and the harmoniously distributed controls, is a further interpretation of the globally appealing McIntosh sound aesthetic.
