The MC830 is a 1-channel solid-state power amplifier that features McIntosh's signature industrial open-chassis design. A pair of MC830's combined with a preamplifier (e.g. the matching C8 tube preamplifier), source components such as a turntable, CD or streaming music player and a pair of speakers can give you a true-to-life home audio experience.
With a similar footprint to the MA252 integrated amplifier, the MC830 is a direct-coupled output design rated at 300 watts into 8 ohms or 480 watts into 4 ohms. A fast-response dual scale wattmeter provides an accurate reading of power output for both speaker impedances. Our monogrammed Heatsinks™ add a sleek look and keep the MC830 running cool for optimal performance. Both a balanced and unbalanced input are provided for connecting to the rest of your home music system.
Optimum protection for your speakers
To protect your speakers and the overall system, the MC830 incorporates two of McIntosh's most important home audio technologies: Patented Power Guard technology monitors the amplifier's output signal to protect your speakers from overload. If necessary, it makes real-time micro-adjustments to the input signal to prevent clipping that could damage your speakers. An additional level of protection is Sentry Monitor®™, our fuseless short-circuit protection circuit, which shuts down the MC830's output stage before current exceeds safe operating levels, and then automatically resets when operating conditions return to normal.
The patented Solid Cinch™ speaker terminals secure your speaker cables so that they do not come loose and possibly cause a short circuit. The binding posts are gold plated to resist corrosion and ensure a high quality audio signal is sent to your speakers. Power Control Connections allow the system to be easily turned on and off by sending on/off signals to other connected McIntosh Components. The user selectable Auto Off feature turns off the MC830 after 30 minutes if no audio signal is received.
