CodeX Network Music Player
Network streamer with D/A converter, Choral series
The Chord CodeX is one of the most advanced UPnP network music players in the world and thanks to the FPGA technology (Field Programmable Gate Array) offers the best possible sound quality for music files of all kinds, including DSD128 and PCM with 384 kHz sampling frequency via USB. It complements the elegant choral series with the latest music playback options and, together with the QBD76 HDSD, covers all areas of high-quality digital music.
The CodeX has inherited a large part of the technology from Chord's high-end streamer DSX1000, including the user interface and the main processor. As one of the first streamers in the world, it offers playback of DSD64 and PCM up to 192 kHz via the network, it can also play files with DSD128 and PCM up to 384 kHz via USB. The digital signals are processed by Robert Watts' proven converter technology, which is used in all digital Chord products. That's why the CodeX sets new sound standards in its class.
Like the Qute EX, which uses the same converter section, the CodeX offers a lot of flexibility. In addition to USB and network, it also has an electrical digital input so that other sources can benefit from its excellent D/A converter. The volume control is analog via a finely adjustable potentiometer, which is motor-actuated and avoids the acoustic disadvantages of many digital volume controls.
The CodeX can be operated in three different ways: via the jog wheel on the top in connection with the color LCD screen, via the network using many freely available UPnP apps from other providers and of course via the own Chord app for iOS or Android. Due to the limited and unreliable bandwidth of WLAN networks, the CodeX relies exclusively on a wired network connection. This means that uninterrupted operation is also possible when streaming high-resolution music.
Of course, the FPGA technology is responsible for the entire digital signal processing, from monitoring the clock and WTA filtering (Watts Transient Aligned) to the fifth-generation pulse array DAC. A newly developed power supply also contributes to the enormous performance of the CodeX. For the best possible result, the streaming engine is also integrated directly into the converter section. As a result, jitter effects that disrupt the sound can be almost completely avoided. For maximum flexibility, the CodeX can play numerous music formats: MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, ALAC, FLAC (up to 384 kHz/24 bit) and DSD64/128 via the DoP standard (DSD-over-PCM).
All in all the CodeX is a typical Chord product and it shows. The complete unit is manufactured to order in our Kent factory, the body is constructed from quality machined aluminium. The CodeX is available in the standard colors silver and black. Special surfaces such as a hand-polished nickel surface or anodizing in various colors are also possible on request.
