Like all Melco music libraries, the new N50-H60 is handcrafted in Japan. It represents a significant performance upgrade over Melco's most affordable music library, the N100.
The N50-H60 is available in silver or black - with the classic aesthetic of the N1A, its full-width predecessor. However, it offers far-reaching internal improvements in terms of power supplies, circuitry and drive performance. The 1.7 mm thick housing, the IEC mains connection and the noise filter are retained.
A quarter more power than its predecessor
The main factor behind the N50-H60's performance increase is an optimized motherboard with a specially selected 6TB HDD drive. The drive is paired with a new rigid hard drive bracket that is carefully mounted inside the case for better isolation. The current model also includes a newly developed power supply with 25% more power and revised isolation feet for additional protection against unwanted vibrations.
Perfectly equipped
The new N50-H60 has Melco's well-known ease of use. There are four special USB ports on the back: USB 3.0, EXPANSION, BACK UP and a dedicated USB DAC output for USB converters and amplifiers/active loudspeakers equipped with USB DAC. The USB ports allow easy operation of connected devices (without any configuration) and provide: import/playback from storage devices, HDD/SSD drives and CD drives/rippers; Capacity expansion with an external storage drive as well as easy data backup.
There are two dedicated Ethernet ports on the back that provide a connection for the player in addition to the LAN port. This is useful to minimize unwanted noise on the music signal and to provide a direct connection with high data integrity for network audio players. So the N50-H60 can be connected directly to a streamer (via Ethernet) via the PLAYER port or connected as a local player via the dedicated USB DAC output.
Nice software features
On the front is a high quality OLED display with push button controls. Melco's Intelligent Music Library with MinimServer and SongKong software is included, as well as Roon Ready certification and DSD compatibility. In USB-DAC mode, the N50 H60 can be controlled via app via DLNA/UPnP. The app supports TIDAL, QOBUZ and vTuner streaming. Qobuz and HighResAudio Downloaders also allow direct, high-resolution downloads without using the computer.
